This is not sad and pity like other gothic acts. This is dark and sublime

Excellent album. Paradise lost is a great band. One of my favorites in the "hard sound". If you like gothic rock/metal also check "a dead poem" and "sleep of the angels" by Rotting Christ

The way I found out about this album and band was magical: I was 18 years old and I was in an art museum in my city watching an exhibition, it was almost empty that day, there were almost no people. That museum has a basement floor, something like a basement where there was a photography workshop (photography courses were held there). I was on the first floor looking at paintings and suddenly I began to hear incredible music coming from the basement, to the point of encouraging me to go down the stairs. I went down and asked the guy who was there what he was listening to and he (with his look somewhere between gothic and bohemian and an unfriendly attitude, with an expressionless face) directly showed me the album and let me write down the name and the name of the band. A few days later I went to get it at a record store that at that time recorded CDs so that one could get music more cheaply. In my musical exploration, Aegis was a before and after in my life.

To me this was the last good album for quite some time. Icon, Drtaco, One second and Host dfidn't land with me until later. This is o heavy and Holmes' vocals are so 'big' on this one. I like what he did melodically later very much, but this is classic PL to me. With As I Die as the ultimate outing.

I was never that into gothic metal but I had a period when Aegis and especially the song Venus was on constant repeat in my room back in the day. After that I got more into Theatre of Tragedy and Siebenbürgen for a short period. Feels so good to come back to this album again even if I'm still not that into the subgenre, Theatre of Tragedy is a big part of my music upbringing.
