My family on both sides moved to America in the 1920's. My family has worked hard in America. I was born in America but spent my entire life wanting to see my "motherland." I went to Italy for the first time in 2016 as a student. It changed my entire life. I was bizarre to feel so connected to a place I've never even been to before. I plan on getting a visa and staying in Italy long-term. Io studio Italiano.

Italians are subject to very high taxation on income. Almost 60% we earn, we pay it back to the government. This wouldn't be that bad if the country was kept in perfect conditions with high-level services. But this is not the case. As an italian citizen, the idea of an additional tax on a national heritage, considering the amount of taxes we already pay, it just make angry. Access to national heritage and museums should be free for italian citizens.

When every city in the world starts doing this, I think it'll end up being the end of the collegiate backpacker. Travel and tourism will end up being gated, even more so than it is now, by having a large amount of money to be able to pay for all of the services necessary to be away from home. You have to pay to sleep, pay to eat, pay for transportation, pay for every place you want to see. In some places, you have to pay to use the bathroom. Now, you get to pay for the privilege of even entering the city. Oh, and you pay for your passport, your visa, or whatever other papers you require too. And let's not forget that anything you buy in Venice is already subject to the VAT which is supposed to pay for the very same things that this new tax is purported to pay for. This is not a good trend.

This just popped up on my feed and usually these types of videos are inverviewing Irish people so I just assumed Trieste was a place in Ireland. They interviewed the first guy and I was like "huh accent doesn't sound Irish, but maybe he's a long term resident of Ireland." It took until the 3rd guy just straight spoke Italian for me to realize we were in Italy lmao
