Stanley Matthews refused to believe that it was Matthews' final. To him, it was Mortensen's final....he got a hat trick!

So weird to see how scared Bayern suddenly became. They started good but though Ajax were terrible they grouped around their own goal for the match .Ajax passed badly and it was one big stew of mistakes on both sides. Maier was terrible , nervous and insecure . 1st and 3rd goal , his foult. At 2 - 0 Ajax found it's rhythm and Bayern gave more room away .And strangest of all ? Cruyff? Invisible until 88th min. when he headed 4😢- 0 . Weird game , this.

I got sent off for handling the ball over the bar like Terry McDermott the following season. I’m guessing the law must have changed as McDermott didn’t get sent off at Wembley.

You probably got sent off not so much for the deliberate handball but not being in possession of a matching perm and 'tache combo.

I know we can all look back n reminisce about the good old days but they were the good old days. Shit pitch. Great team. Now we got a great pitch n a shit team. Money has ruined our working class game. Foreign investors, speculators. Plastic fans. Sky TV. Pundits. Sad to admit it but I do miss Jimmy Hill. Always preferred Brian Moore. Those were the days my friend. Up the Chels.

A lot of good football was played in the late 70s/early 80s in this country. I don't quite know why, not long after that, teams started knocking it long and setting up the 2 rigid banks of 4, almost squashing the idea of tactical advancements entirely. Whereas the 70s might be characterised by the influence of Total Football and the Dutch 433 which both teams in this match are adhering to, the 80s can be characterised by the 442/424 and the long ball game. Perhaps influenced by the rise of Dave Bassett and his Wimbledon side, then later his Sheffield United side playing much the same way, with other clubs looking at them grinding out good results and thinking "well, it would be so much easier for us to do it THIS way than the way Cruyff said". Or perhaps the influence of Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan side, and watching the rest of Europe, Italy especially, take to the 442, the highly compact banks of 4, the very low block, the emphasis on defence then the sending up the field up the field of their flair players as the team folds out like some coiled spring to try to break through the other team's defence, also playing in a low-block, two very rigid banks of four, compressed infield at both flanks. Either way, I'm glad we got Arsene Wenger and then later we got Pep Guardiola to make our English top flight remember just how high-quality our football can be when we commit to playing that way rather than the hoofball we saw throughout the late 80s and much of the 1990s.
