Is the reason you use coffee because it has tanic acid in it? I do natural cloth dye, and I was wondering if some of the items I use that have tannin in them would work, as well. 🤔
@carvingthecottonwood5 ай бұрын
To some degree, yes... and I've tried tea too, but it doesn't get the same colour. Mostly I use coffee as stain for food safety (spoons, kids toys) and the fact I don't have to worry about the rags catching on fire afterwards. 🙂
@Shahrezad15 ай бұрын
@@carvingthecottonwood Why... would the rags catch on fire?! 😅 I was just thinking that I could maybe use walnuts or acorns or pomegranate rinds, given that I don't drink coffee. So I was wondering if the same properties coffee has would also apply to other tannins.
@carvingthecottonwood5 ай бұрын
@@Shahrezad1 hmmm, can't help you with that, I've no clue. Keep us posted? With many stains and oils there is a risk of the rags catching fire, be sure to read all labels carefully.

Chetwynd is named after The Honourable "William Ralph Talbot Chetwynd" (Juyl 28, 1890-April 3, 1957). He was Director of the PGE Railway (now CN Rail), a BC Social Credit Party member, and a politician for British Columbia Legislative Assembly for Cariboo (1952-1957). The railway was built north to Chetwynd by 1957-58. I lived there as teenager in the 1960s & early 70s. Of course, it was smaller then. As a student, I worked at the saw mill a couple of times and off-and-on at most other places in town, especially a Texaco gas station--now long gone. I actually lived upstairs in the town's museum building when it was located down on the highway (South Access Road). I believe it was the town's first Post Office and grocery store (in the 1950s) before I got there. The building was moved up the hill and made into the museum at sometime later, long after I was gone. If I was still there, I would be a pioneer. Now a Big City boy in Vancouver. The locals have true grit---much to be admired.---Chuck Gardiner

Great memories! The place really appealed to me, but then I grew up in Grande Prairie and Chetwynd is the same neighbourhood.

Check my channel, there are videos of bark hunting in Alberta and BC, Canada, that show you what to look for, and one all about poplars. You can also order bark online from several sources. It is, rather obviously, my favourite! 😎

It is berries soaked in alcohol or vinegar to pull out the medicine from the plant. Only need a few drops each day in water or tea. Elderberry can be toxic raw or in large quantities!
