If you know anything about proximity in networks you understand that this doesn't make any sense. This is the opposite of walkable

Nice words to describes a Big jail in the middle of the desert 😂😂😂

There's nothing organic about building a linear, imposing structure in the middle of a desert. But hey, others may disagree, and that's fine. I'd rather be a part of the humanity that cares about indigenous people and human rights.

I have a question for Tarek, if the average distance between two random points on a line is 1/3rd of the lenght, and the average distance between two random points of a square is about half the length of a side, why would you construct The Line, which is 170 km long and 0.2 km wide, instead of constructing The Square, a city 5.83 km long on each of the four sides, since the average distance between two places would be 2.9 km rather than 56 km, almost 20 times the distance and implicit travel time? Especially given the great economic and climatological costs of transportation?
@swilhelm3180
@swilhelm3180 7 күн бұрын
I think it's because they don't want to use hundreds of transportation routes to get everywhere. The Line's one mode of transportation is ridiculous of course as others have well pointed out. And if it goes down what happens? There's no redundancy. There are so many things wrong with this idea it's a wonder anyone would even sign up to work for them. Obviously they're making a ton of money, that's why. And they're going to ride that gravy train as long as they possible can, as long as funding is there.

Did he just say: "...not in an African context where people don't seem to make sense of what we do here?" Poor guy. He needs to come to Africa, understand our context and the problems we are trying to solve and see how good the solutions we have developed. We don't have to always import what other people are doing if it doesn't fit the set of problems that we are solving.

It's a problem of scale and incentives. As long as quantity is valued over quality, we will mass produce boxes with right angles. Projects like these are beautiful and necessary but bespoke, artisanal and time consuming. Each project is different. The work load on a national or planetary scale is uninmaginable even when taking into account current capacity. Not to mention the health and safety regulations. The vested interests and the existing markets. It's nigh impossible for creative solutions to make it far enough to impact the many. In the end the money wins.

the following is entirely my personal opinion, my name is alan b richmond jr, and i was a 'student' at the staedelschule, accepted when daniel birnbaum was director, and bonnie camplin would have been my 'professor', but by the time my semester started, nikolaus hirsch was interim director and douglas gordon became film klasse 'professor'. while at the schule, as a fine arts (not architecture) student, i was in a 'forensic aesthetics' seminar, offered through the architecture department. rather than RT60 - the authenticity of space through sound, i wish i had rather developed and pursued a more subjective project called 'finding fake sirens' (retracing awkward tactics of a home wrecking siren that dont even live near the ocean) a story about how psycho psych phd 'homewrecker' professors pursue unsuspecting married husbands in second life virtual worlds, then temp and lure them away from their families, while when then introducing them to their friends, family, and colleagues, lie about the origins of encounter (making up stories about music sites rather than admitting to their family, friends, and colleagues that they were pursuing virtual world relations, probably having strange avatar chat room style affairs or attention, or mind game experiments for university paper pysch behavioral research), and then pretend to be 'innocent' but still trying to make claims on something, or someone, that was never theirs in the first place :) i dont speak the language, but the project title would probably be a german translation, you know, for like, the sake of authenticity :)

I really appreciate the design and innovative solutions in this building and really respect the level of research involved in this project but this presentation feels more like an self obsessed marketing speech and less of a design presentation.

The classic portfolio project. A project designed and made so the architecture studio can add some fancy pictures to its portfolio... Imagine if there was a hill that could let you see the exact same view and not interfere with the water... oh wait there is... right beside it...

I visited the place last friday. It turns out it was the day the project team was celebrating the publication of the "Living Places" book. The Hygge House that you see in the video here is just unbelievable. You feel well the moment you enter the house. i would buy it right away 🙂If you happen to be in Copenhagen it's definitely worth a visit.
