I relate a lot. She's so smart. I feel it requires a lot of self awareness to realize when you are putting yourself down and stop working for what you love. A lot of beautiful art comes from people that didn't give up. (Plus she's like a beautiful, enchanting cat for me) Thank you Karla!

Sketchbooks can be a prickly topic, I totally get his point of view, but I also enjoy looking at others' ideas and Sketchbooks, but only if it is consensual. Personal Sketchbooks are like being naked, and you don't feel comfortable doing that with just anybody.

Eaton, I want to express my greatest gratitude for you and the team of THU for this invaluable lesson! From all the sketchbook series episodes this one happened to be THE MOST valuable for me so far. Scott was one of the best anatomy tutors in my life... I never had a luxury of having him as my actual teacher, but his videos explained so much of human form and helped me make my first steps into digital sculpting, and that consequently elevated my understanding of anatomy in drawing and painting to the new heights.. And now many years later, after being a professional in gaming industry for 12 years and art director for 6, Scott and THU team did something remarkable - conveyed a message that hit me, 37 yo man, so hard I shed a tear.. coz I'm the guy who always had love-hate relationships with art, who started numerous sketchbooks to never touch them again after messing a couple of pages, who always felt much comfortable in digital realm than in any kind of traditional and thus deep inside always felt like a fraud, overcompensating for this fact over and over and over again at work getting one burnout after another.. achieving success, achieving recognition, getting praise, but never accepting those, only using them like a painkiller to keep the imposter syndrome at bay. I have no idea why, but when I saw this scene in the beginning where a grown man, recognized professional holds his ground and doesn't allow people into his "safe space", made me realize - I never actually had such, that I consciously treated as one. My unconscious safe space was digital since it allows for absolute control, I have tons of unfinished psd's digital sketches and stuff no one has access to (even I would have hard time trying to figure out where most of this stuff is by now).. but it was never a conscious "safe space", it was always something with WORK attitude, and with years this pressure drained me. Recently I started a sketchbook again.. and again I started to obsess over every frickn page and forcing myself through it and by chance just stumbled upon this video... for anyone calling Scott "diva" here, know one thing - obviously you have no idea about how dark you relationships with your craft can get, when you are as self-conscious as you are dedicated and stubborn, and if you casually call yourself "perfectionist" and at the same time this episode appeared funny to you - you have no freaking idea what being a perfectionist really is.. you can work yourself to bleak and miserable nothingness, and keep working - and this episode for some damn reason felt like a sobering wake up call... for this I'm deeply grateful!

This guy can draw faces... all day long. He's learnt the simplistic marks necessary. But he needs photographic reference for hands, forms and other details. He's much more of a fashion designer. A few quick marks for the face... and then he enjoys himself, in drawing the 'fashion' elements.
