@BobDiaz123 8 күн бұрын
@arlingtontrains7 It was a woman who was angry at the helicopter overhead taking pictures; I assume because of the noise from the helicopter. The finger was being given to the helicopter.

Sorry to see you have a problem with it. Which company did you order it from? It appears to be one manufacturer and MANY distributors. I believe all of them are in China and some are better than others for customer support. Please let everyone know what company s giving you problems.

Well, I'm sold. I was using an Olympus 8-25mm F4 Pro Zoom lens on my Lumix GX9 for a trip to Northern Italy in the summer (2023) and it was mostly amazing for outdoor shots. But I got caught short inside Milan's Cathedral, where the F4 was just not coping well with the dim lighting and the ISO I had to use produced shots with a level of noise that was hard to fully remedy in Topaz AI afterwards. I did think about getting a Laowa 6mm F2 Zero-D, as I actually enjoy using manual lenses, but sometimes, you just miss shots because you're still fiddling around with the settings to make sure that the focus is on point and I don't want yet another ultra wide zoom, and I'm not a fan of fish eye lenses, so I think I've done the right thing by just placing an order for this lens for my nice new shiny G9ii and your video helped me finalise the decision, thank you.

I was able to see the heater vent from 12 feet away, as well as the hot spots on the ceiling. I haven't tested from 23 feet, but if it's large enough, the camera should pick it up.

Good Video. It is sad, that will all the Hall Scott motors still available, that the museum doesn't restore the McKeen car to it's original configuration. That big yellow diesel just doesn't do the car justice, and a Hall Scott is a whole different roaring animal of an engine. Just the sound alone, let alone the huge power of the Hall Scott is something to behold. Now if you restored the power to this McKeen that would truly be a representation of the McKeen car.
@BobDiaz123
@BobDiaz123 Жыл бұрын
I looked up when the Hall-Scott motors came out, the company was founded in 1910. This McKeen car was built in 1909. Thus it's impossible that #22 used the Hall-Scott engine. The museum staff researched what was the original motor and found that it doesn't exist any more. Thus, we had to use a modern day Cat Engine.

What did he think was gonna happen when the motor quit, glide to a smooth landing?
@BobDiaz123
@BobDiaz123 Жыл бұрын
My Brother In Law who was a helicopter pilot and safety instructor for the Military once he saw the video told me that a safe landing was possible. The pilot must disengage the engine (Kevin did that), and put the helicopter into a downward slope to increase the spin of the blades. Before he hits the ground, the pilot must pull back and use the spinning of the blades to stop or at least slow the descent. If the timing is right, the craft will touch down nicely. An experienced pilot could do it, but Kevin was not that. Kevin kept the craft level and the spin of the blades slowed down. You can clearly see it in the video. Fortunately for Kevin, the forward motion of the craft caused it to rotate once it hit the ground. This allowed for the craft to take up the majority of the impact.

I cannot thank everyone enough for helping create an increased passion for model railroading to a very interested 8 year old. I was so impressed with everyone listening to his questions and taking the time to provide simple answers. This is a new hobby that I hope will provide hours of granddad and grandson time. Thank you again for sharing your passion!

Is this what is known as a super-regenerative MW receiver?
@BobDiaz123
@BobDiaz123 Жыл бұрын
No, it's not a super-regenerative receiver because there's no positive feedback to increase gain. This is more of a single stage tuned receiver. It has very poor selectivity and only pulls in 2 or 3 very strong stations. While this is not the best design for a radio, it's more of a learning project for students.

Hi Bob, what does that pull cord on the ceiling running the length of the car do?
@BobDiaz123
@BobDiaz123 Жыл бұрын
My first guess is it goes to the emergency braking system, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll ask next time I'm at the museum.
@AceBriggs6
@AceBriggs6 Жыл бұрын
It was originally connected to a bell mounted to the ceiling inside the cab of the locomotive. The cord would connect with breakaway connections going from car to car, used by the conductor to signal to the locomotive crew new actions when under way. Pulling the cord rang the bell in the cab, different numbers of rings would mean different things, like stop, slow, etc. Yes, the cord could be quite long all things considered, and would go through baggage/express mail cars as well as extended over the top of the tender to reach the cab.
