Agreed and there have been several decisions that have baffled me. Diablo Immortal also supported WASD movement on M&KB.

I hear that, there are times when it is hard enough to see my character. I have not gotten to end game with my Barb build, but have had no issues with a spin to win build so far, and the Sorc has been fine depending on the build. On other ARPGS I have used the free YoloMouse from GitHub, Dragonrise Games and now on Steam for a fee. I have read posts that it works with some setup but have not tried it myself in Diablo IV. I wish they would fix hold to target lock just to see how that worked and just add WASD. I already and will continue to get my moneys worth out of the game, but it does seem to have diminishing returns the more you play. Thank you for commenting and good gaming.

I appreciate that and I am glad you found it informative. When I first started using it I found it most helpful on bosses, as you have the time to set it up and play around with it and you don't care as much about the adds, and as I got better with it used it in more situations. Good gaming.

The character just jumps a certain distance in the direction your looking unless it auto aims or is target locked on a target then it jumps to that location.

@@Matches44 I know. But are you able to teleport where you want? I made a sorc yesterday. Got to 60 today... Still can't teleport properly. Was thinking of doing kbm for it. They should add some directional aiming options on controller.

I have been playing sorc since the beta, and teleport was an issue for me back then, so it either clicked at some point or more likely I just got used too and accepted the sloppy controls. I don't usually have issues with the directional part, but the distance part is where I can struggle sometimes. The other issue I have has been teleporting inside of things, and semi CC myself, not sure that is only a controller issue, but more easily avoidable on M&KB. I use it mostly to begin attacks and then as an escape, on the attack I know where it will go because of the target lock, even if it is not locked on, and as an escape it is just the direction that looks safest, there have been times it has auto aimed me to a less than ideal location. I wish I had better to offer.

With the target lock system there is no way, that I know of, to target an unoccupied location. If it casts similar to other abilities you could cast it between two mobs with target lock off, not sure with what reliability because the auto aim will kick in if it is too close to the mob, and behind might not be possible at all, as I think the auto aim will always take over and place it on the mob. Definitely a limitation of the current controller control scheme in Diablo IV, and a win for mouse and keyboard. I hope you figure out what works for you and good gaming.

@@Matches44 Some skills, like bonespear, will travel it's full length through enemies and so if you target a close minion it's not so bad (although still not optimal). Other skills are cast only at targets. So think about the classic fireball. You cast it on a minion who's close to you (which is naturally at an edge of a mob pack), so the AOE effects only half the pack (roughly speaking). If you could target an empty space, you could cast that fireball in the middle of a pack and have it be MUCH more effect on average. This is impossible and this makes controller very bad when optimal play is required (i.e. endgame).

I know exactly what you mean, it is also a similar issue with teleport for example. The controller has pros and cons, one of those cons is it can limit playstyle, I have had comments that certain builds play as good or better on a controller. I have been having fun playing sorc on a controller but if you want to min/max the game at a pro level, yeah I would say use a M&KB. I personally haven't found the DIablo IV endgame very engaging or rewarding, mostly just a grind, so I'm looking forward to season 1.

Natively in the game I only know of it working with Xbox and PS4. It will depend on how your PC recognizes the generic controller or what software it uses. Sorry I couldn't be more definitive, and good gaming.

Interesting, I feel the opposite in Diablo IV, I feel more connected and in control of my character when using the controller for movement. Aiming or attacking is more accurate on the mouse and keyboard. If the game had WASD I believe I would feel differently, and for me makes the game feel dated not having it. Got to go with what works for you and good gaming.

@@Matches44 maybe it's because I have a custom keyboard that I built? So for me, the keyboard has the exact tactile response I want, whereas the controller just feels strange to me. I've also been a keyboard and mouse gamer my whole life, and when I play a console with friends, it feels strange. But the most important thing is what you said whatever feels best for the person using it, is the way you have to go

There are still advantages to the M&KB but the controller does feel better. I am not sure if the game had had WASD movement at lunch I would still feel that way. Thank you for commenting and good gaming.

Sorry was AFK for a bit. There is no in game option like that for controller, there might be some work arounds if your on PC but they might be time consuming and not work that well in the end.

I have not felt handicapped in PVE and in allot of ways plays better than KB&M. I tend to agree with you about PVP, but I have not been able to truly test this as being lower level than your opponent is also a huge handicap. Yea for most classes Barb though plays great on controller pvp wise, slapping kbm players everyday with HOTA.

I'm playing ranged rogue on controller and I gave up on trying to kill ppl with rapid fire lol just isn't easy from far away,now trying penshot lol have to get up close or is easy miss everything

@@Matches44 no problem, Yeah I was ready to set up my Controls just like Diablo 3, with the left trigger to lock target, it was almost perfect, until I realized this bug. As soon as they fix this issue, ranged characters will be a lot more enjoyable for me.

@@TonyMezaXD I am pretty happy with the toggle target lock, but I would like to try the hold lock as intended and see what I think. Hopefully it is fixed quickly.

I am not sure Sony or consoles could win me back anytime soon, but I am glad to hear you are enjoying the ps5. The more I learn and play with the controller it appears to be the way to go in Diablo IV. @@Matches44 idk man i am getting old and I have little time and money to invest everytime my pc stops being latest gen. Is much more comfortable to do couch gaming. I got into ps5 with the ps4 ff7 remake exclusive.

I am not a strait console hater, PS2 was the GOAT, my reason for going away from consoles are too many to list in a chat, I may make a video someday. If the console works better for you I am not trying to get you to switch. I am a big supporter of crossplay, I like when people can play on what they prefer and still be able to play with their friends. I do enjoy the hardware side of PCs and building them is fun for me, where yeah it is defiantly tougher if your not into it. I prefer gaming in a chair, even when I play on the couch I creep up to the edge to be in a more upright seated position. They spaced out and changed too much for me to get excited for the FF7 remake, at least excited enough to buy a console just to play. I always felt like I would miss the old combat system.

It defiantly opens up playstyles and builds that would normally be harder to play on a controller, thank you for commenting.

I tried so hard to make mouse and keyboard work for me since I'm playing a ranged character as my alt, but after playing controller barbarian for my first playthrough, click to move feels incredibly stupid and outdated. I know it's a skill issue and I just don't care, controller is more intuitive for me here hahah.

It does have that feeling that they didn't update or modernize the M&KB controls and spent that time making sure that the controller felt and played really well, I am sure consoles played into that.

Performance will be different playing with a controller than with M&KB, pros and cons to each. Once you get used to the target system with controller I believe you would be happy with it and may even enjoy it more, I know at least two people who have stopped using the M&KB to play with a controller. The controller target system basically allows you to lock onto and switch targets, similar to a tab target system, I will be posting a more in depth video on the controller target system in the next 24-48 hours. Hope this was helpful and good gaming.

I was thinking a little more about the AOE side of it, I always aim my AOEs at a target and not a spot on the ground. I am not sure if there is a way to do that with controller, and until you brought it up I never really thought about or missed being able to do it. It is a great question, I will let you know if I figure out more.

@@Matches44 I just got the game and it looks where I am looking, which is fine. But if there is another monster close to the one that is targeted, I still dont know how to change between targets. Right stick didnt work here.

@@wlmirand Don't remember what the game starts with for settings, check under the controller options. I just made my video live, it might do a better job of the explaining than I can in text. Let me know if you get it working to your liking.

I am using an Xbox Elite 2, but if I were trying out that controller. I would move dash (O) to L2 and leave the potion on L1. Use the face buttons for attacks, and the R1 and R2 for defensive abilities. I would disable L3 and R3, and move them to the backside buttons for show/hide loot and lock target. Hope this was helpful in some way and good gaming.

The controller support is excellent for the game, and you will have fun with a controller. It will attack in whichever direction you are looking, there is some level of auto aim. If you use the targeting system you will see what you are aimed at with a red symbol, and you can cycle through the targets using the right analog and then lock onto a target using R3, so you basically never miss. Hope this was helpful.

I haven't played on a console yet, just my PC and my laptop. My several year old laptop, was very playable, some issues in town, at 1080 with a 1050 4GB graphics card on WIFI. It was hard to tell if the issues were my laptop or the network or both. Thank you, that is very flattering, and that could be something interesting to try.

I think some of it for me goes back to a roommate I had that could be laying on the couch and fall a sleep with a controller in his hands while playing. That is harder to do with a mouse and keyboard, although I am sure someone has figured it out. I can't do that I have to atleast be sitting up. @@Matches44 did that the other night found my self running into a wall after resting my eye for i said a second more like 20 mins. Everything else I agree 100% the default game pad binding were a bit weird but once I remapped them its now very relaxing. still do town stuff with the mouse though.

I do not have a Nintendo controller and do not believe it will work natively with Diablo IV on PC, but it is my understanding that that method or similar method through Steam does work fine with the game. Hopefully someone has a better more definitive answer for you.

@HawkHardstylez I miss understood slightly, I was thinking software to do it, and I am just using Xbox accessories. I do use the same button for interact and basic attack and I toggle off the item labels. I am using an Xbox Elite 2, the face and d-pad buttons are standard, I use the 4 paddles as the right left buttons and triggers. I disable my triggers, I accidently hit them all the time when I put it down on my desk, and I disable the left and right analog click buttons. The left button is toggle loot and the right is lock target. I like the remap you did with dodge, I am going to try that with the second left paddle, that should make that side of the controller the same, no matter the character build.

@@Matches44 yeah I’m using the elite 2 aswell. Great controller. But damn I’ve bought 5 of them all of them had problems straight out the box. Hope they release an elite 3 soon. Yeah I accidentally click them as well sometimes. I like to have all face buttons as skills so that’s why I changed dodge to left trigger. And then I use right trigger and right bumper for the last two skills. Otherwise everything is set as standard. They did a good job with the standard settings. And controller support for d4 is AMAZING. I’m just like, There must be a better way. I always like to find the best comfort for games like this. If u ever try something and it feels good. I usually only use a controller for racing and flying games. I think clunky is a little harsh, especially as I get better with the targeting system for controllers, but I know what you mean. I would say the same about shooters, except that the auto aim in some games is so good now, I am not sure if I am right about that anymore. Those are all great suggestions to mitigate repetitive motion injuries. “The best form of prevention is to limit the time anyone spends doing the same motion over and over.” Thank you for your 2 cents, I like the feedback.

When I did Cyberpunk 2077 on PC I played all the game with M&K obviously because nothing can match the precision of the mouse on a shooting game, but I always had a pad right next to me to drive because driving sucks with a keyboard. I do not like the auto targeting feature in any game, I like to be the one in total control of what I do when I do it. I think auto targeting is kind of cheating... Also if you're experiencing any kind of cramp in your arm while playing with a mouse, It might be because you squeeze it too hard while playing.

I probably do squeeze too hard in intense sections sometimes on both mouse and controller. It has been a long time since I have had any problems and it mostly goes back to an old job, but it made me more aware of what repetitive activities I am or choose to engage in.

Devil may cry is a Hack and slash game and its played with controller...

@@jonissues1914 You're absolutely right, but Devil May Cry is a 3D action game. When I talk about Hack & Slash, I'm talking about Diablo, Path of Exile, Titan Quest, Victor Vran, Grim Dawn and so on. In short, games with an isometric 3D view from 3/4 up. Since this style of game first appeared on the PC, they were created with a view to being played with keyboard and mouse. Anyway, that's just my opinion and everyone is free to play as they see fit.

Yup, I'm still getting use to the targeting system, it's almost like a tab target, but I'm having fun.

The question is, will blizz add kbm support to PS5?

From everything I have read they have been so weird and vague about it, I am not sure they know the answer to that.

I have had some feedback that M+K does work on the PS5. The wide spread reporting before launch was that it would not be supported at launch. Digging deeper I fount that Rod Fergusson tweeted the following: twitter.com/RodFergusson/status/1631104482846334976 I am unfamiliar with what is supported natively on the different consoles, and I could not find a clearer statement than that from Blizzard.

I think it needs to have an in game advantage for me to think of it as traditional, but that's really just splitting hairs. It does worry me a little that they say ever other day Diablo IV won't be pay to win, but then go do this.

The mouse and keyboard in competitive and/or PVP almost always has an advantage, in any game, that does not always make it a more enjoyable experience for me.

I have trouble laying down playing games, but definite advantage to the controller if you can.
