Thank you! Looked at many videos and your demo is closest to what I need to know to deal with two problem shoulders.

I'm right handed but I always used one left hand to do it (and unbuttoning too).

Do you have any suggestions for what to do when your foot won’t go in the sock aid?

It depends on why the foot won’t go in. If you could tell me more that may help. Is the foot too swollen for the sock aide? Or what’s going on?

I have cerebral palsy spastic quadraplagia And every time I get my foot into the sock, I have issues Pushing it all the way through I’m usually sitting on the side of the bed when I’m doing it. I recently had knee surgery on my left knee, but the knee is completely healed so is my right knee which I also had surgery on. My foot is not as swollen as it was before the surgery. My first knee surgery was four years ago my second knee surgery was last year.

Ahh, I see. That can definitely make things more challenging. It’s much easier when I can visually see and assess the true problem. With your spasticity and balance are you able to cross your legs? Are you able to request a referral for an Occupational Therapy evaluation?

I’m not able to cross my legs in the figure for position while sitting I’m able to do it while lying down but I need to use a stretch strap wheelchair reclines I’m also able to do it while my wheelchair is reclined and I’m currently finishing up my occupational therapy my last appointment is in two weeks. I believe we’re working on putting on socks at the moment. I’ll try to send you a video of me doing it so you can tell me what to do.

Okay. You can email [email protected] and I can try to help. You may have to send it as a link of some sort if the file size is too big.

This is awesome! If learning one handed shoe tying is hard or its too much of a challenge physically to do, us OTs at AskSAMIE like to recommend shoe buttons which can also be used one handed after initial setup! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtZoo7dz0LKqkaM.html

As a fellow OT, I appreciate how clear this is (as opposed to written instructions). Such a fantastic way to teach and promote carryover 🙌 thank you!!
