hello sir...did u resolve the prob after code came back? if so what was the issue? thanks
@westernsoutherner112 күн бұрын
The code came back- I took it to my shop and Ill make a follow up video with some other actions I took as well as their diagnosis and repair (hopefully). I figured out how to graph my O2 sensor readings and Bank 2 sensor 1 read out was sloppy and may be the issue. This, of course, would go against the logic of a P219a code being a bank 1/drivers side issue. Ill have an update out this weekend or the week after whether its fixed or not. Thanks for watching!

The diagnosis was the lifter valley gasket....I have never heard of it but apparently there is a pretty good oil leak, which is also a vacuum leak throwing off fuel trims. 800$ job so I really hope its the fix. I burn/leak about 3/4 quart of oil in 3000 miles so perhaps this is where its going?? Ill circle back again whether is fixed or not.

Good reminder though never the less in the event that we have a leak or something gets wet. Where do you place your bottle jack to lift the truck in front and rear when changing tires? I have the same exact truck and have Lance camper
@westernsoutherner12 ай бұрын
I havnt changed a tire with this truck/camper yet. I have done it many times on a 2010 Silverado 4x4 and I placed the jack under the frame either far back or up close to the front tire. I used the rear hitch once and the diff head before too. I always had to put some 2x6s under the jack to get enough height. It gets a little sketchy for sure. I cant imagine a High-Lift jack being any safer but I could be mis-informed. I have considered getting a small floor jack but they are pretty clunky to keep in a truck camper. Either way an "overkill" approach seems important with matters like these. Thanks for watching and good luck!

Oil changes are your friend. I just rolled over 238K. I run Mobil 1 extended performance 5w30 and a Fram ultra guard filter every 4000 miles. Fresh/clean oil is important to keep the lifters cleaned out amongst lots of other parts of the engine. Youre probably already aware of these things and thanks for watching!
@remopiccioni94562 ай бұрын
I bought mine with 214,000 miles on it. I feel crazy 🤪 for buying it but I really love the truck. I just got the mechanic to run flush through it and change the oil. Because low oil pressure light came on. It runs good now but I may need a tune up.
@westernsoutherner12 ай бұрын
@@remopiccioni9456 Yea just keep an eye on the oil level and do regular changes. I dont let my oil change meter get below 50%. Run good full synthetic and it should keep it cleaned out. Make sure you have the new valve cover intalled also- there was a TSB about it because the built in PVC valve would get clogged leading to all kinds of issues like burning oil/running rough etc. I switched out mine with a Dorman brand years ago in the driveway. It was an easy swap out. The new cover had baffles to keep oil from clogging the valve if I remember correctly. Good luck!

Nice video. Are you pleased with how your camper furnace performed in the very cold temps? My van propane furnace works well but I am curious how it would do at -30F.
@westernsoutherner13 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes I am okay with how it works, however I have a long career in the backcountry so my tolerance is pretty high. You would use a lot of fuel for certain. I would keep a secondary heat source around too like a generator and space heater.
@livingmyalaska3 ай бұрын
Interesting that my propane generator cranked and ran at -30 but my Merc. Diesel engine gave me a hard time. I thought propane did not perform at extreme cold. @@westernsoutherner1
@westernsoutherner13 ай бұрын
Yea usually propane gives trouble at that cold. I think my coldest camp was -7 in the camperr. I had the fittings shrink once and propane was leaking out. Sketchy. That was low single digits when that happened. Replaced the pigtail and the flame king tanks appear to have a better seal. Diesel has a hard time in the cold too I guess. I don’t know anything about the diesel heaters but seems like they are catching on.

Nice to have a four season trailer. I used to have a 28’ jayco. You may want to look at air bags for the rear if you find your rear squats a bit even with the WD hitch. Pulled with a 1500 chevy and an F350 diesel. The 1500 pulled, but with the winds on the prairies it was pedal to the floor, course the diesel was a dream, until it left me stranded with an emissions sensor failure.
@westernsoutherner13 ай бұрын
Agreed the 1500 is maxed out hauling this thing. I have a 2500 but a truck camper sits on it pretty much all the time. Any long hauls with the trailer and Ill use the big truck. Thought about airbags also- long list of toys, mods, and maintenance as Im sure you understand. Diesel operations/emissions is a complex world. The 4 season is really nice-stays around 40F-50F in the guts of the camper so far as I have monitored even on nights in the 20's. I leave the little inside doors open to make sure warm air circulates. The Artic Fox is a hell of camper I have to say. My dad has a 20" Microlight that he modified with heating pads on the water tanks and has used it in surprisingly low temps (teens) as well. Of course he was consistently monitoring it with laser temperature gun. Obviously a lot of power and fuel consumed to maintain a functional plumbing in conditions like that. Thanks for watching!
