It was a while ago since I have done this. But if I remember correctly it is filled so the oil level is just bellow casing when the door is open

I used to work on the yorkshire waterways in the 70s and 80s, a lot of the leeds and liverpool short boat were originally fitted with Widdops but I have never seen one running, they were made in Keithley I believe

Got one of these also! Engine runs beautifully, but the electrics don't work on the one I have. Any chance you could do a video or send some photos of the end of the alternator with the case off to show the electrics and wiring? I'm keen to try to fix mine, but struggling to find any information on how it should be wired!

Lovely machine mate, I've got a couple like that. Almost certainly a ex-traffic light system given that it's 1500rpm, 1.5hp. It won't be 5kw mate it'll be about 1kw. I love these old machines, really nice.

Thank you, Still out back covered up, and I'll occasionally go out and give it a run. Yes I found it was only good for running a couple of grinders and the lights in a build, so yes I would say itll be around a 1kw then
@TheAmazingAdventuresOfMiles4 жыл бұрын
Well they are built to run for a very long time on a tank of fuel, hence the slow RPM. Most portable generators are 3000 or 3600, but this type is a slow-burner specifically for fuel-efficiency at the cost of limited peak-output. But for a highway traffic-light system it's perfect, 1kw is plenty. I bet that tank will run it for ages (and it is the correct tank btw).That silver pulley isn't standard though, has it been converted into a rope-start? They are normally a handle-start.

The only thing that i like on these tarpens is the very handy dynamo! Sounds very 'dry' & no smoke.. Are you sure that you have added enough two stroke oil to the petrol?

These sets are rare I've only seen a few ours is in off farm condition but dad started to restore the engine some 30 years ago. Now his work is getting rusty as the rest of it well I gave it all an oil rag going over which revealed original paint but I think is discoloured.
@harryconn31727 жыл бұрын
Richard Fox Fair enough, if you look back at the other videos the engine wasn't a nice colour so it definitely needed restoring
@richardfox97957 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's apparent from all the holes on the engine side

Richard Fox yes they original had a petter on, this seemed to have been changed to a wolseley some years ago

How is your project going? just stripping down an aeroquip compressor, a bit smaller than this one, but its still good information to compare

I'm rather busy at the minute, and I need time to get it on a press to remove the crank from the pulley. Everything else has been stripped down and the crank cast cleaned out. I am struggling to get the reed valves to work, which I'm gonna talk about this weekend hopefully.

Call me crazy but aren't listers meant to be low speed engines? Like around 100-110 rpm?
@harryconn31728 жыл бұрын
Yes they are slow running engines compared to modern engine, but they don't run that slow. I'm not sure what rpm says, but it will be around 650 to 1000 rpm

Most of these wolselys run with the lever in the the middle, my wlb8 will only run when its centre and my wd8 runs smooth if its in the centre too
@harryconn31729 жыл бұрын
I think the manual say to put it all the way down, but both my WD1 and WD2 engines run much smoother with it up, cheers

A bit noisy but I have to say I do like these capable little gensets. You can fill up the tank and leave them running for hours on end with no attention at all.

Thanks, I had a hand injury when I bought this set up, its that small and light I could do most of the work by one hand which was nice. Cheers Harry
