I second your thoughts, I found him last October. I am amazed I didn’t find him earlier. I too listen to him everyday with great gratitude for having found him at all. I have been listening to the Saturday broadcasts of the Met opera, so I have no idea why I haven’t found him earlier. Had no idea that I have been looking for him all my life and I am almost 75.

Thank you so much for uploading this recording. For a long time I thought I saw Burton in this role ar The Roundhouse in the halcyon days of its fringe experimental theatre in the 1960s and 70s! Now I know I was confused with another touring production. But Paul Newman was in the audience, saw him in the bar! Now that's true! There is a good Caedmon recording with Frank Silvera.

A fost o raritate un băiat excepțional talent colosal. Nu pot să cred să stins așa devreme. … fie iertat. May rest in peace. Such loose în opera. History. Not acceptable…

@@mrslita2575yes, Anna Moffo ....a miracle . So gifted....I ve said it often : this american-italian Anna had it all what this russian Anna lacks.....BTW, there is a recording of 4 last songs by Richard Strauss sung by Netrebko in horrible German .....but Moffo rules it , she spoke German fluently.....thanks for feedback, always welcome 😊

This is not the film - it is the studio recoding made after Burton & Taylor performed Dr Faustus with the OUDS for a week at Oxford. They were not paid and made a huge contribution to the building of a studio theatre for the University. The stills are from the film shot in Rome some months later. Burton was not just a great professional but a very generous man. Notice the pronunciation here of Faustus as /forstus/. This was decided by Nevil Coghill the director. For the film the pornunciation became /fowstus;/

I only came across this interview now Nov. 12 2023, almost 6 years since he passed away and regret it very much that I didnt know him earlier. Can a person fall in love with a person who is dead? But I dont accept that he is gone, everyday I listen to his songs, with live joy and pain. It is not possible to say goodbye to Dmitri. He lives in our hearts always.

The number of views of this is absolutely disgraceful! What is the matter with people? This is really excellent! Beautifully sung and played. Moore is still the greatest accompanist ever, in my mind, and I am sure he coached Miss Moffo. Very few singers can equal this. Lieder are so difficult to bring off well. Most opera stars do not do well in Schubert.

What an absolutely divine 'lost' gem of a find!!! I have heard a number of these pieces elsewhere but never on one album. It has one masterpiece after another!!! What a shame it is that this album has never been re-released or re-recorded (it's probably in the public domain)!!! Thank you, Ealdred, for finding and uploading this album so current and future generations can enjoy it!!!
