seeing you guys slide down at the end is actually hilarious, I had a “fun” time trying to slide the second half of it this year, snowburned my knucles real good, took over a month for the skin to heal - ring finger still coming back 😂 Looks like you guys had some nice weather, congrats on the summit!

Thanks for sharing this video. I'll be headed to Lake Taupo for a Triathlon in December. Was thinking of running this as well afterward. I'll have a car. Did you arrange a driver to pick you up at the other end. Not sure I want to go back and forth. Also, do you have a preferred direction to follow this trail after having done it?
@LockeyPrice
@LockeyPrice 8 күн бұрын
Thanks for the view; Definitely worth the run. I arranged for a drop off and a pick up, but I can't recall who I used. I see from my emails that I tried to use Tongariro Transport Hub Ltd: [email protected]; however, they didn't open until October. I ran it South to North, which is how I would do it again. I wouldn't go there and back, but you run triathlons, so maybe you'd be into turning 20k to 40k ... I think I used this route, but I can't be sure: www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/new-zealand/manawatu-wanganui/tongariro-alpine-crossing?mobileMap=false&ref=sidebar-static-map

I know this vid is 5yrs old, but do you think this foil combo is still good setup for learning? Looking at a same combo for sale locally with a 6'8" SUP board. Thanks
@LockeyPrice
@LockeyPrice 11 күн бұрын
@@kupono808 Totally. I’m riding all Armstrong gear right now and I think it is better, but this kit is still super good enough. That board will feel like a lot of board and a lot of swing weight to pump, but it would be great to start learning on. Let me know how it goes or send a video of you foiling!

One of my favorite ice routes in the Banff area - climbed it eight or nine times' during my decade living, skiing and climbing in the Bow Valley - 1983 -1993. We used to hike in back in the day and the trail was rarely broken as it didn't see much traffic, just the occasional cross country skier. It was also quite the climbing challenge at WI4. We were using straight shaft, non ergonomic tools, and had no speed handles on our screws thus, we usually pounded in a single snarg or just ran it out on the last steep pitch as cranking in screws with the pick of a tool was quite awkward and time consuming when you had a good pump on and the ice was extremely brittle. Anyway, great video guys - brings back so many wonderful memories from my youth!! Wish I never moved east and settled into the boredom of southern Ontario suburbia -..though some good rock climbing here on the Niagara Escarpment and a bit of ice when the temps are cold enough.....c'est la vie....

Thanks for the comment, it is a great climb. It would have been interesting to climb it in the 80s and 90s when it was much more wild and remote. TBH, I had to look up what a snarg was. You'll have to come back to the Bow Valley soon! Thanks for the views!

I remember in the 80's a person could go to Grassi Lakes on a Saturday morning at almost any time of the year and no one else was there...no climbers, hikers, dogs, runners, ....nobody. On one occasion there was a car that was pushed off the cliff from the road above.

Yeah, a bit different than it is now. We went up a couple of weeks ago, and had a nice night with my brother's son, but every route on Gardner's Wall had someone on it ... Grabbed White Imperialist and hung out on Dance me Outside, which didn't have anyone on them. Still a beautiful place, but you have to share it with a lot more people ...

Nice video! On the first ascent Eric Dumerac took a monumental whipper about 50 m from the top and left of Guides Route. Eric dusted himself off and we made it to the top. Subsequent efforts resulted in the better quality finish that's climbed today, and the bolts that make the climb relatively well protected. The original accent was ground up with pitons and trad gear, fyi, in a single long day. I love that it got called Freefall but I've never understood why we've been called "reticent". Eric did nothing but talk about it for years 😂

Excuse the potentially ignorant question but I'm traveling here soon and have never done outdoor bouldering before. How easy are the downclimbs on these?
@LockeyPrice
@LockeyPrice 2 ай бұрын
All good. Many of the downclimbs are very easy. Others not so much. However, if it is a concern, there are plenty of boulders that have easy downclimbs. Also check out the Happy and Sad Boulder videos for more moderate boulders. I'd say the Happy and Sads have easier walkoffs than many of the Buttermilks.

Hey great video. We’re headed to Banff in July and all my kiddos climb. Could you give me some suggestions on good climbs in the area? We’ll be in Banff (Canmore) for about a week. Thx so much! 🤙🏾👍🏾 Rundlehorn is on the list!
@LockeyPrice
@LockeyPrice 7 ай бұрын
Hi John, I’m glad you enjoyed it. There are so many really good climbs in the Bow Valley, and I have trip reports from many of them on my channel. Some of my favourites moderates are: Achilles Spire; Cardiac Arete; River Run; Generosity; Takkakaw, there are so many more … for my 40th, we did: Rundlehorn, Goldrush, and McSlab, and then ran up Heart Line on Heart Mountain, all of these climbs are very moderate and well bolted. We simulclimbed almost all 50 pitches, so I’d be very comfortable climbing with my kids on them. If you have a specific tick list that you want some input on, feel free to reach out and I’ll let you know what I think. Have fun!
