my opinions are similar to yours. Amazing visuals and animation but a bland story that feels both heavy on exposition yet underexplained. It really does pick up in the second half though, and touches on some interesting themes but never really explores them. Almost feels like some stuff has been cut.

Japan is never going to do a remake. Because the show was a failure in Japan. Golion was not a hit and very few people remember it in Japan. It is only remembered because of Voltrons popularity ironically. And if you look at it. Voltron is basically a remake of Golion alresdy. They streamlined the story so it makes more sense. Did more with the characters and actually told a more cohesive storyline than the original Anime.

I started watching the 2003 anime after seeing a amv 4 years ago, I plan on watching the 80s one only seen a few episodes of that.

I love old anime, the new stuff sucks. I prefer anime from 1970-2005 sometimes ones up to 2010 but anything past that I haven't enjoyed which is why I stopped watching modern anime.

August 2024, NYC. I just went to a screening of Macross Plus and there was a Q&A with Shoji Kawamori. I enjoyed that film and now I'm doing research on where to start in the Macross universe. This video really helped.

That show was the very last anime fully produced using cel animation from beginning to end, with roughly 70% of the animation being in cels and 30% digital for the tech and space effects. By 2000 Fujifilm stopped making the cels used in animation and most studios were forced to pivot by that point, . That's why a lot of running shows like Pokemon or Inuyasha switched to digital or why 1999 Hunter x Hunter started looking worse in ep 70 of the OVA. Only a handful of shows using cels were released after 2000. Astro boy was being made for the anniversary of the franchise so the producers wanted it to be on 35mm film. After it, no other show was made using cels and the only one that kept using them was sazae san until 2013, but it being a show that's been running for almost 50 years, they had some difficulty switching to digital, or maybe they wanted to keep the cel look.

Oh wow God's War really is atrocious. The fact that there's a subplot about Gilmore forcing Ishinomori, who's on his death bed, to finish his story just makes this manga a lot creepier. At least there's 1 good thing that spawned out of this mess, and that's Kamen Rider Agito. I'm gonna need some eye bleach after reading this atrocity so hopefully the Devilman crossover delivers

But I agree that this is one of my favorite a atomocatsuhiro space adventure series loosely related to North Korea government that keeps their population under control with the threat of an autocratic society much like North Korea. But I will agree that this is a love letter to the Apollo space program. Obviously by watching this I realize that there are many nations who admire the United States and it's a space program in reaching the Moon. This is something that most Americans and even some non-americans are not aware of. Some people actually admire the aspects of NASA. Even if it's the events that happened many years ago. That being said it's still a very moving anime series. The characters are ordinary people not yet fully adult but they put that aside and realize that they are being manipulated by an oppressive government. Two people escape the moon and our transported to the Earth that they now realize is completely recovered from a terrible disaster caused by human activity with a giant space station colliding with the Earth. But I can tell you it's a very interesting film. The animation is a odd sense of CGI to save on animation costs. It did not distract me from the story in any way. I have met the Creator that I'm special event some 15 years ago. But he would not elaborate much on the politics of the story which are very obvious. He did not speak English and had a hard time speaking through his interpreter. It was a small convention called the platform animation festival only 150 people attended. But I have to agree it's a very exciting space adventure connected to politics and the love affair that some people have with the United States Space program.

Gantz is terribly written, or terribly adapted - I've never read the manga. The Gantz Zero movie is good but you should avoid the series.
