This model is easier to keep clean if you empty it outside and wear gloves to remove the cyclonic assembly.Outstanding suction and does a great job picking up Pekingese hair! Mine’s 10 years old and still works. For those who can’t get water to come out the bottom - it needs a thorough clean with a needle through the ports at that point. Once it’s ungummed and you can use it again, run 2 tanks of plain hot water through it into the bathtub after every use. It cleans all the ports so it’s perfectly clean for next use.

Show me how to STOP the Bissell, model 1970 from releasing water w/o using the lever.

I’m so bummed. I just purchased this machine from Amazon and tried it. I think the suction power is terrible. I did see one video review showing how low the suction power was (a woman showed very low suction power when applied to her T-shirt) but I figured it was an anomaly due to so many very positive reviews. I’m wondering if I just got a bad machine and should try again. At this point, not worth keeping. Try it on your T-shirt and tell me what happens.

I lost my manual and can't seem to detach the clear plastic piece on the brush so I can clean it. Any advice? Otherwise I have been very pleased with it.
