I used to watch Mannix with my dad in the den. Fond memories. Remember his black secretary? Gail? Mannix, Star Trek TOS, even Batman at 6:00pm. Mannix was a slick series and very entertaining. Now you're making me curious about its origins and messaging.

Mannix had very high production values and innovative photography. It was a quality show and looks like it. I'm thinking it was also very expensive to produce. There may be influences from The Avengers,The Prisoner and Bond but it set the example for American TV detectives that came after. It churned through a lot of stories. Seeing the intelligence connection references you bring up, some of that stuff probably did end up in the show.Maybe be too much. There has long been contact between the relatively large military presence in California and Hollywood. Maybe some interaction as well. It won't be admitted . Unfortunately in Canada it isn't available for streaming so I have neen looking at You Tube clips. He sure got knocked out and hit by cars a lot.
