Loved this demo! Kush's demo videos are great too, but its awesome to hear it with different material not produced by the creator as well! I highly recommend this compressor. I own a pair and I won't ever sell them. Other than maybe a Distressor, there's few compressors that come close to the Tweaker's versatility. Especially for the price! For vocals its either the Rupert Neve Designs 5043, For Drums, this is one of the greatest compressors I've ever used. Please never stop the twisted knob series btw. great job!

Bock was muddy on the acoustic track, yet smoother at the top. U47 was sort of dull sounding compared to the Bock on piano. The Bock outshined on vocals, so same results as the piano track. The Bock is more open and flexible on the amp. With the kick drum, the Bock seemed more open and has a little clearer bottom end, but that was from first listen. All in all, the Bock is the better deal. I think the acoustic track could've been better with change in position.

Man, I looove your vocal samples. Sounds great in a vintage way on the 40, and a little more modern (but still pure silk) on the L.

Between these two, the mic I would prefer would definitely depend on the genre I am recording it for/how I plan to mix each instrument. On piano, the M147 seemed to have a darker tone, and its dynamic response seemed to blend a lot of the upper harmonics together, while the U47 FET had a brighter tone as well as a more drastic dynamic response. My choice would depend mostly on whether I would want the piano near or far in the proximity field (M147/U47 respectively). Drum overheads was an exception; the non-linear dynamics and dark tone, in my opinion, did not serve the M147 there. U47 FET all the way. Electric guitar cab is the other exception, but in the other direction! Especially with the beefy low-end, I LOVE the M147 on this tone. Perhaps, if I wanted a very bright, spanky guitar tone, I would reach for the U47... but unlikely in most other scenarios. For acoustic guitar, my opinions are very similar to piano. The one other thing I noticed is that, even though both are recorded in mono, the U47 FET seems to have a much stronger center in the stereo field than the M147. The differences in tone could make either mic more suitable depending on the desire of the engineer in the final mix. In my opinion, female vocals is the instrument that made both these mics shine. I could only describe the dynamic response of the M147 as intriguing. I loved the tone, and could see myself recording vox with this mic for a jazz ballad, acoustic singer/songwriter piece, or for folk. When listening to the U47 FET on the vocals, all I could think was pop/EDM music. The presence peak exaggerated by the FET circuit would really help a female vocal cut through something as heavily arranged and busy mix-wise as those two genres. Just the opinion of a 21-year-old Sound Recording Technology major. I have always enjoyed using Neumann microphones when I've had the opportunity. My university actually has two M147's for the senior students to use. Should I be so fortunate, I would love to see either of these microphones in my locker one day.

only just seen this post. Interesting what people say about the KM184. My experience on guitar is that it records strumming superbly well but my Beyer MC930 was superior on picking style. I do find the comparisons interesting though, despite all the offerings on here the difference between the KM84 and KM184 is so negligible that I'b be amazed if you couldn't change what you don't like with a bit of eq. What the Neumanns do bring is superb body and focus while the other mics sound plastic in comparison - though the Peluso is closer

The litmus test for me is always that super loud "Theeerrreee!" she sings. That's what I always skip to in all the twisted wires comp demos. That's where most compressors reveal their weaknesses. Some compressors, when I listen to them in the clipalator make the sound shrink or get small. In this one, at 5:05, the IGS eats up that "Thereeeeee!" and does 20 db of compression and doesn't even hiccup. The sound stays nice and even. This is one impressive comp.

I think I've changed my mind regarding my post below regarding the subjective preference for the 147 on the electric guitar. I think maybe the ruthless raw aggro that the U47 FET captures is just too compelling to ignore...it's a tough one though...be interested in others thoughts...

+ZenProAudio Warren, I was wondering if I could plant the seed in your mind of what I think would be a very interesting video mic demo. I propose the following 3 mics being demoed in a similar way to this clip. The mics are: Neumann U47 FET...Neumann M 149...Neumann M 150. As I think you might recall us discussing via email, the U47 FET definitely has some real mojo happening. However, the M 149 I would say is widely considered Neumann's ultimate current vocal mic (and by the way the circuitry of the M 149 is different to the M 147 so even when the M 149 is in cardioid mode it's a different animal to the M 147, and generally regarded as far superior). But most interesting of all would be to have the M 150 in the demo...as although it isn't a widely used mic for vocals, some reviews I've read have described it as "jaw-dropping" on vox and on basically...anything! Also, the M 150 is not a mic that many people have heard or have much experience with, so a demo of it compared to the two heavy hitters rocking K47/K49 capsules would be fascinating! Any chance???

Hello . YES, I had the opportunity to use the LA 2A. It's charming character. Invisible, Warm and in face. And if you go in not feeling -10 db. Really warm. In the video I hear very clearly the character lazy. Plus strange colors in right times. Is not stable spectral sound which also is very important .. That's what I heard in the video! sorry if I disappointed you. It's just my subjective opinion :)) By the way, I want to thank you for the videos other. I preferred the TM-47 on the acoustic guitar and piano. I wasn't crazy about either one on this vocal example and would probably choose a different mic altogether for her voice, but the TM-1 felt better out of the 2. The TM-47 brought out something in the upper mids of her voice that I didn't like as much. I currently own a TM-1. Really nice mic. It offers more features such as the omni pattern and high-cut, which makes it a good value in my opinion.
