Great content Jay and thanks for explaining things 👍🏼 very helpful about letting the band play and use a motif/hook. When you said go to a totally different scale did you change from Minor to Major? Or was it a change in chord and you played over that?

Thank goodness I found your channel. I'm trying to write my first novel. I have set it in Gold Rush era Seattle. I am😅 a local and a tour guide, so researching the history of the area is very easy to do. What isn't so easy is to dive into the culture of the era, the way people spoke, and so on. Thank you for your advice. After I finish watching your video, I will research popular names of 1880 to 1890. I assume that when it came to names, parents of that day were like our parents; They didn't want their kids to be embarrassed. So they chose names a kid could be proud of, and carry into adulthood. Respectfully, I will disagree with using Dynamite Dick. It sounds a bit too much like Magic Mike. 😊
@jaycollins9244
@jaycollins9244 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Research is the key for any novel genre, and you are correct that they way people spoke is difficult to discover. Reading material such as newspapers back then and Civil War letters are a great indication. Contractions were not generally used and when you consider that most households had bibles as their only written words, you can see that would be an influence too. The Victorian era would have been a huge influence also, with everyone speaking "proper" English. There are some western movies out there that have portrayed this but they are few and far between. And "Dynamite Dick" was a real bank robber back then! LOL. Good luck in your endeavor! I will try to get back at doing some videos, but my MAC died which was the computer I used to edit them. Once I replace it I will start again.

I have a feeling I'm going to get bad feedback on some of my characters' names but here goes! "Blink" Joey Simms Jane Milton Henry Clemmons "Split" Alfred Lickety (this one is probably the corniest haha) Beau Warren James Nelson (just for context these are all supposed to be children and the nicknames are given to them by their friends. It's more of a children's western, if that's even a thing, about a little mischievious gang getting into all kinds of scrapes and shenanigans. Would love to hear what you think!)

Jay, you play it so effortlessly. Can you also show us the rhythm that you play right after the lick. If you could play it for about 15 -20 seconds, same rhythm over and over I will get it. I have been practicing Don’t Think Twice it’s alright” and cannot seem to get my rhythm down.

Hi JO: Thanks for the comment. I haven't posted a video for quite some time as I have issues with my Mac and that has my editing program on it. As far as the second part I play after the Reed lick you want to pick the 4th with your thumb and the 1st and 2nd with your fingers at the same time which finishes the E major chord. Then play an A7 position. Play the 5th string open and the 2nd string at the same time, then the 3rd followed by the 4th with your thumb. Go back to the E major and play the 1st then the 6th, then the 4th, then the 6th and finish with the 3rd with your finger and then the 4th with the thumb. Then the Reed lick goes again up and down the scale. Hope this helps. I will try to back at videos soon.

Great advice, Jay! One of my few criticisms of Zane Grey is, despite some cool character names like Buck Duane, a lot of his characters have some silly names (Lassiter, Jean Isbel, Ellen Jorth, Durade the Spaniard, etc.)

I went for some stronger names that aren’t that flashy, I’m a younger author (in my teens) who’s writting a book for the fun of it. So far I’ve stuck with this idea of simple names that are put together to create a stronger one. The main characters name is Jack H. Callahan (El Rubia) The main antagonists are Scott Winchester, Vincent Rodriguez, and Charlie Maguire (Scott’s name is a bit closer to comics but give me a break) Jacks will be helped out by a local sheriff named Clint Van Horn and a former bounty hunter turned mentor, Frank Grimshaw.

I'd comment more but I'm too busy..... living life. I think what you're saying is the meaning of life, is to live it. I'm reminded of the scene in Good Will Hunting when Robin Williams and Matt Damon are on the park bench and Robin's character say something to the effect of "I bet you could tell me all about the Sistine Chapel, the type of artwork, etc...but you can't tell me what it smells like, what you feel inside when you look up at the artwork....". A great scene and this is a great rant as well. Just stumbled on our channel. Mighty fine picking and teaching. I appreciate what you're doing. Also, the author Neal Donald Walsh comes to mind. Familiar? Wait..I'm also getting a Tom Robbins vibe from you too. I could be off base, wouldn't be the first time. Peace & Joy!

Great and simple explanation dear sir. Kindly suggest me an affordable pedal for Chet Atkins style playing and which pedal are you using in this presentation?👏👏👏
@jaycollins9244
@jaycollins9244 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. As far as a pedal for the Atkins style, I am using an old Digitech RP100 processor which gives me several different reverbs and effects. The main one I use is a "Spring type" reverb for the Chet stuff. Sometimes I might use a quick delay behind it as well. The Boss Digital Delay pedal is one of the best you can get just for general playing for any style. Chet for the most part, just played it straight with a slight reverb.

You're completely right Jay. Our conscious awareness goes only so far. We're here to make the choices and do the actions of art, music, gardening, building, dancing , touching, smelling, eating, cooking, communicating, etc etc. Fulfilling our instincts and desires in the real. I'd take it a step further and say it's very possible that we're all here to parlay with one another as a collective consciousness. Everyone has something to offer. Both positive and negative. I feel we're all here create the great narrative of living. Each of us has a shining chapter to contribute to that fabulous ever expanding recollection of what it is to be Gods children. Even the notion of belief is just a silhouette of the very tangible experience of engaging and doing, even with all of it's caveats, real day to day action of that belief.
