Is it possible to replace spider gears while differential and rear end are still mounted on the vehicle? So far every video I've seen on this subject, was always with the differential or the rear end removed and on the bench?

What do you use if you have a transaxle with a clutch type limited slip? With the same oil being shared between the synchronized transmission and the diff?

I see that for installing the ring you basically whack it with a dead blow hammer... can a press be used instead?.. use a few bolts as guides... then rest the ring on wooden blocks and then press down the zip locker from the top into the ring?.. I have seen this done and recommended on other videos, Thanks!

Interesting you say they default to the locked position. I've had one of my hubs lock several times while driving on the freeway. I have contacted your company twice regarding this, and both times I was told my spring was worn out or I had too much grease in the hub. Replaced the spring, rebuilt the hub twice, still have the problem. This is the first time I've heard of a "default" position for the hub. I got on here to research Mile Marker vs. Warn replacements, but now I see this may be by design. Can you please send me to somewhere that I can find out what exactly you mean by default to the locked position? Maybe I didn't waste my $600 and I can just find out how to keep them from locking when I don't want them to.

I don't understand what is going on with my 2001 Chevy Silverado Ext cab truck. I changed the rear end gears of 3.42 to 3.73 and after the complete job I drive it and there is no increase in power,no change in my speedometer. I have a 5.3 that has been rebuilt two years prior with the flat top pistons and a tow power plus camshaft and more modifications. Before the change in gears I could do burn outs and had plenty of power. Now I have a slugest engine and it acts like it's sick. Does anyone know what could it be? Do I have to get something reprogram in the computer? Please help

I usually use full synthetic gear oil with a bottle of friction modifier in just about every axle. I figure not to many people change their trucks gear oil to often. So the good stuff should last longer with better protection. Most trucks I work on are stock Fords chevy toyota and jeeps.

Would it be a good idea if someone used selectable (air, electric) lockers on the front axle and either detroit or grizzly lockers in the rear axle? Since the front axle could easily be converted to an open differential with the simple push of a button, and technically, the rear axle would not be a spool or locked all of the time. Or would using the detroit or grizzly lockers for the front axle and the selectable locker for the rear axle? Thanks

I’ve always heard that you should have a little resistance on the ring gear when checking the pattern instead of letting it free spin…
