A problem I still have is that so much nuances and emphasizing is lost. My real (recorded) voice sounds flat and is missing so many details. Why do the details get lost? I think exposure therapy is best. But I still have to and want to learn to adapt/transport things I really like doing with me voice (in my own ear) to my "real" voice that everyone hears. Becaude every nuance or tone is lost on the recording. I also sound a lot more boring/weird and like being ignorant on my recorded voice. Not yet liking this. PS: About speaking, not singing. What *does* work though is pitching my voice a little bit higher on purpose... and boom! It's not perfect (as I hear it), but the details are like 70% there. In comparison to 0% when I don't pitch my voice higher. Not yet there loving my recorded voice. What is really weird, that I often got compliments about my (speaking) voice. Like quite often. And I'm like thinking "If they only knew!" (how much "better" my inner voice sounds) Still not believing the compliments, but it won't really stop, so I guess folks have a point. But I'm not feeling it. Going there eventually. Thanks for this insightful video!

I've always felt like its a adhd or maybe its my mild autistic tendancies... The echo or repeat of my voice in my ears is just "wrong" esp if the recording monitor is off by even a few mms. Its the same reason i have issues with shadows or spinning items near me or off to my side. I find i don't have issues if the delay is 0. but i can't have filters on the voice to do that.

I listen to a lot of "emo" music but I always thought my own perception of my voice sounded only tangentially "emo" but then I recorded it and I sound like I'm making fun of the music by being overly emo lol

The only thing worse than hearing my own voice is hearing an otherwise intelligent sounding person say "firmiliar" repeatedly. It's like a portmanteau expressing a familiar firmness 😅

You kind of remind me of a cross between Jimmy Fallen and Michael J Fox. Not as much your voice, but the way you look and come across in this video. I have always hated my voice. I don’t think I have good diction and my articulation sounds so gargled or not very clean and crisp. So sounding a little higher doesn’t bother me as much as the lack of crisp clarity.

I actually disagree with a lot of what you said for one not everyone likes familiarity and the reason they dont like thier voice is because they simply dont like it in general. and exposure therapy would help but i feel its more about learning different techniques rather than just getting used to your voice

Next time, why don't you actually show the position of the mic, height, angle etc. Difficult to get it clear from just a description. Just a thought,

Good advice. It does seem odd when you hear your own voice. I remember as a kid listing to my own voice on recorded tape player and thought to myself, "I sound like that?" Now I understand why. This video helps as well. I love my own voice since I have been singing. Great tip withe the Mic also, works soooo much better. Thank you Sir.

I don't believe that these mics are doing such a great work. They work all with the same techniques.. When I record my family with no matter what mic they always sound indeed with the mics differently. The world simply says that these microphones are perfect, but maybe they are not. Seems to me that they give a slightly different coloring to the voice for everyone I've tested..

this may be more complicated, but I tend to have complex song ideas, and having fl studio mobile on my phone helps me a lot to write them down more accurately. I'm sure there are free mobile daws that will work as well

I actually hate my voice the way it sounds. Being from Manchester UK it sounds so common and I actually realize I don’t pronounce my „Ts“ when I listen back. 🤦‍♂️ What microphone do you recommend I get. I really should get use to recording because would like to start making video with the content that I have. Also… really appreciate your time and effort with this video 🙌🙌🎥

I feel you. Just keep going and eventually it’ll start feeling less overwhelming. Start by just taking the next step. Write 10 words or record 1 verse. Take it in small steps. You’d be surprised how effective it is!

Depends upon the listeners. My wife criticizes all the times that my voice is saggy. Last month I sent a singing demo to my old girlfriend and she liked it. "Reminds me of good times we sang together". Now I have to decide! Technically, I found few things that encouraged me: - Sing loudly but limit at 75%. Highest key. Imagine trajectory of QB throwing ball. - Choose melody that goes up&down (hiding stain mode). Less distortion noticed because the varying notes overide vocals. - Start 1st round in a quick draft mode. Re-record and listen again & again. If I hear less and less bad parts or drift along the not-so-bad parts, then I award myself "It's getting Better".

Thanks for the great advice on getting to a point where you aren't disturbed by the way your voice sounds on a recording. For me it isn't just when recording vocals, but even more when I am recording voice over for radio. I do a radio show and it makes me cringe every time I listen to myself speak to the point where I do not say much anymore, so I am hoping this will help with the radio voice over work as well. I also have to start doing regular videos for social media soon for PR, so I am hoping it helps with that, and then I just have to somehow not be disturbed watching myself on the video because I really do not like it currently. Thanks again, I am going to start recording my voice on my phone and playing it back, and then do it daily, hopefully it becomes familiar fairly quicky.

I experienced this a couple times this week, thanks for the tips and book recommendation. For me sometimes I’ll get two ideas at once and forget both in like 10 seconds after trying to write one down without forgetting the other, like trying to catch two falling wineglasses and shattering both. I’m getting improving though with practice
