Maybe try using a higher tensile steel tube. Also it seem like they put the bucket in the middle see jf you can weld ties from that big round tube at the top down to your new section. If that makes sense. Heavy gussets too 1 inch at the intersections of your new square tube and the existing structure. Just some initial thoughts idw very unusual use case. They're effectively using the whole bucket as a giant lever against that new section and the large diameter existing tube. Actually i think id be looking at heavy structural steel beams you kinda want something in the ball oark strength wise if the existing tube.

Gussets is about only way to keep it from bending to the outside like that. Might try using 1/2" chain welded to the sides then come off each corner on the top two tubes about 18" with additional plate welded onto the tubes to secure the chain to. But they'll probably just rib those off with the buckets, and you probably can't use doubled up plate in each corner for gussets either, cause that'll hold material behind it, and just give them another place to grab hold of the dam things. Looks like your trying to build something kids that destroy steel balls with plastic bats. So untill they learn to play nice with their toys. Ya'll gonna have steady income repairing them every few months. Might see if you can get the spec on the steel the original boxes were built from, and order the same grade materials next time. Seems as the original held up for a long time, because it stayed together until they literally wore the bottoms off dragging it around. Best ideas comes to mind, and at least you know the difference between what you used and what was there originally. Then you can see what your supplier can suggest as they have all the data on everything they have available next time

Thanks for the comment! I couldn't agree more! Fighting a losing battle the way they handle them. I guess it adds a bit of Job security though. I did check with the manufacturer on this one and to my surprise they use standard A36 mild steel on all of it. We even went thicker than original. They have some newer operators that don't always drag them like they should. So now the bottom is doing great but the push bar area not so much!

Are you running FCAW with a mig gun? Or FCAW dualshield?
@waggonerwelding
@waggonerwelding 18 күн бұрын
We ran FCAW on this one. Tried a bit of dual shield but it wasn't worth using up the gas for this. And yes it is a mig gun that we use for dual shield and flux core wire. Works just fine. I definitely recommend a flux core specific lead if that's all you weld with. We go back and forth so a lead with a gas line is a must for us. I will likely get a better FCAW gun soon and just switch when needed.

Six months to year from now, things like that will come easier, not easy, but easier. Time is money, and quality tools, and the right tools help greatly, but experience takes time to learn that slow and steady, is the best method. Haste makes waste, and you break more things when you rush things. Breaks your tools, your bones, your bank account, customers parts, and having to do something twice, because you get impatient cost everyone more money. There's no shame in asking someone questions about things you have never done before, as long as you ask the right person the right questions the proper way. From an old hand, been there, n done lotta things, and took the time to teach those that wanted to learn. But show those ones that's been there what they earned, are learn from your own mistakes. Best advice, and the only stupid questions, are the ones that are never asked. You'll know the one's that are the best when you see how they are treated, and don't fall for flashy rides and fast talkers. Quiet humble with watchful eyes learn a lot more than you think. Talk a lot of circles in my old age, but is it all bullshit, or is it to see if you are paying attention. Keep up the hard work, and you'll go far, but never buy what you need on credit. Pay for it up front, and take care of it right, and it'll last you long time. Same with the lady, and the pup, but mistreat them, are take em for granted. Lonely world for those that's a fact. Smile your just gettin started in life, and mines bout over, but I'm still smiling, cause life's what you make of it. Take care, and remember King Kong you ain't, so don't pretend to be something you ain't, because you'll pay for it when you're my age, and it ain't worth the price..

@waggonerwelding Most of the time I put on my rosebud and heat the inner race until it's glowing almost at melting point. Then while it's glowing hit the pusher bolts or puller and if it can it will come loose. I see some people try to cool it down with water to "shock it" but that rarely helps. If it's glowing I promise it will move. Heat is the best tool in the se situations, apply generously. Hope this helps on the next one.✌️
@waggonerwelding
@waggonerwelding 28 күн бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I will definitely try that next time. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get it hot enough with my rosebud and no access to the center of the race. I run oxy propane and don't have a real big rosebud so that method never seems to work out for me 😂 I never liked the quenching thing much either. I can't carry enough water to get anywhere with that! 😂
@repaircollc
@repaircollc 28 күн бұрын
@waggonerwelding I have never used propane before, just the high test stuff 😉 I know heavy repair work does need a lot more heat than preheat for welding. If you plan to do more of this kind, I would definitely invest in a good rose and extra acetylene 😉. Also, leave that red handled wood chisel in the cabinet shop. It's just gonna hurt you using it like you were, I promise. Get strikeable chisels, punches, and prybars. Also, those prybars are meant to bend so they don't snap suddenly. That's the indicator to use a different technique. I'm really not trying to be " that guy," I swear. I just really want to help. You guys seem cool, and I would love to see you do well.✌️
