So much misinformation : OR staff are not "completely sterilized" : they wash their hands and wear hospital issued scrubs, that doesn't make them sterile. The surgeon, the assist and the scrub nurse wear a sterile gown and sterile gloves. Makeup is common in most ORs, many surgeons and RNs wear it. Whether she should have been allowed or not into the OR is another question, but in reality it's quite easy to get into an OR if you've got the surgeon's permission (at the end of the day it's his responsibility that is on the line), and it's undeniable that her presence helped raise awareness and made a lot of publicity for Chain of Hope, which was the goal.
