I was just curious, what levels you keep your nitrates and magnesium? Also what type of salt do you use? Amazing job keep up the great work!
@YasFansa
@YasFansa Ай бұрын
Thanks, Nitrate levels were between 5 and 10 ppm. Phosphate was actually 0 ppm for the first year. I was trying to raise it, and now I have it under 0.1 ppm. Alkalinity was around 8.5 dKH. I did not test for magnesium and other parameters. I was using Tropic Marin Pro salt, but now I have switched to Fauna Marin Professional salt.

@@YasFansa thanks for the info. I think I've been using the wrong salt for a while. I was using Red Sea pro in a 30 gallon. Unfortunately it was keeping my alk around 12.5 mag 1350. I switched to a new salt (alk 9) and supplement mag to 1500 and I'm finally having some luck with my LPS.

How many gallons is this tank? I was looking at getting my first aquarium and jump into this hobby. The very knowledgeable and helpful staff suggested about 5-7 fish for the 90 gallon tank that I was looking to get
@YasFansa
@YasFansa Ай бұрын
It is 91 gallon .The number of fish you can keep in a 90-gallon reef tank depends on factors like species, size, and compatibility. Generally, follow the "1 inch of fish per 2-3 gallons" rule, but adjust based on individual needs. Some fish are small, others larger, so it's about balance, not just numbers. Start slowly, adding a few fish at a time to let the biological filtration adapt. Certain types of tang fish can grow quite large. Some reefers choose to keep them in smaller tanks when they are small, planning to upgrade to a larger tank or resell them once they reach full size after a few years.

hello, thank you for sharing the appearance of algae and diatoms and linked to a lack of phosphate in your opinion? Have you raised your phosphates? and how did you do it? THANKS
@YasFansa
@YasFansa 2 ай бұрын
Hi, I wasn't sure if it was just the phosphate level, but when I used Flux Rx for the GHA, the phosphate level started to rise, and I turned off my Refugium lights. Last week, I did an ICP test and found out that the silicate levels are too high. Now, I'm working on removing silicate from the tank and have added a silicate filter for my RODI water

Does the valentini puffer not pec at your shrimps or corals? I wanna get one but im not sure about the risks
@YasFansa
@YasFansa 3 ай бұрын
The Valentini puffer is considered semi-reef safe; it does not nip at coral, but it might nip at Acropora. In my case, I only have one small frag of Acropora. For invertebrates in my tank, I don't have hermit crabs or shrimp, but I do have turbo snails and Nassarius snails. They are mostly active at night when the puffer sleeps. I wouldn't add it to an SPS-dominated tank. It doesn't act like a typical fish; it has a special personality and gets along well with other fish mates.
@YasFansa
@YasFansa 3 ай бұрын
The Acropora I have doesn't open when the lights are on. I noticed that it does extend its polyps at night when the pufferfish is asleep. It seems to be protecting itself against predators and opens up during the night, resembling its natural behavior in the ocean.

@YasFansa
@YasFansa 3 ай бұрын
I cycled the tank for 3 months without LED lighting, only adding fish before introducing the light and adding corals. I cleaned the sand during every water change (if it was dirty) and kept nutrient levels in check. However, after making this video, I had to deal with turf algae and some dinoflagellates. Unfortunately, it doesn't always stay clean. I'm currently working on a new video about how I deal with these issues once I have them under control

Great video - many thanks for sharing! As someone looking to get into the hobby, there is a vast amount of knowledge to be gathered and gets overwhelming, so this is quite inspirational and informative. I'd love to get a written list of all the corals in this video - perhaps add them to the description. I would also appreciate some perspective on tank size. Though I know the dimensions of the tank models I'm looking at, I'm find it challenging to visualise their relative size, maintenance and running costs. I'm tentatively looking at the Red Sea REEFER Max-S 550 G2+ or the 350. Not sure. I would also love to see a video where you walk through setting this tank from scratch - assume no prior knowledge. As I'm researching, I'm finding that every time I feel like I'm beginning to understand what I need to do for a marine tank, a whole new bunch of information gets thrown at me - supplements, taste kits, sand, live rock, food types...it gets intimidating. It would be immensely useful to have one proper video that walks you through ALL of it.
@YasFansa

Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate your suggestion about listing the corals in the video and providing more details about the tank setup. I'll also consider creating a separate video that dives into the tank size, maintenance, and running costs. I completely understand that it can be overwhelming at the beginning. When I started, I didn't invest in all the equipment right away. In fact, I ran this tank for the first two months without lights or a skimmer. Equipment, dosing, and additional filtration came in a later stage as needed. I believe in taking a gradual approach, introducing elements as the tank matures and requires additional care. Your idea for a step-by-step tank setup video is fantastic! I might work on it when I have the time, guiding beginners through each stage to make it less intimidating.

Of course!😊 1 - Fish: I feed the fish frozen food once a day. I use: -Ocean Nutrition Frozen Artemia -Ocean Nutrition Frozen MARINE MIX I do sometimes feed them pellets, but just once a week.Mandarin fish typically rely on pods for food, but some may also accept frozen food, expanding their diet. However, not all individuals exhibit this behavior. 2 - Corals: I place the corals where I like them to be. Of course, I have to keep in mind that SPS goes at the top, and LPS and soft corals in the middle or lower. If they don't extend after a few days, I replace them. I do not regularly feed the corals, but occasionally, I add (Red Sea Reef Energy Plus AB+) when the water is too clean. 3 - Dosing: I dose (Tropic Marin All-For-Reef) and (Red Sea Foundation B - KH/Alkalinity). I haven't started dosing calcium and magnesium as my levels are still good. No problem. I hope you got your answers 😁

how do u prevent the fish from eating the coral?
@YasFansa
@YasFansa 6 ай бұрын
Well, the majority of fish I keep in the tank are reef safe or reef safe with caution. The Valentini puffer is the only exception, as it might sometimes nip at SPS corals. In my case, it didn't. I wouldn't add that fish to an SPS frag tank, and it's important to keep the fish well-fed to prevent such behavior.
