Good description but it would be really helpful for you to explain a few more things: how to get the front wheel off? Where to jack it etc. How to clean wet grass off the deck? As a ride-on mower newbie this would help a lot.

Real buyers guide. 1. Dont buy one with rubber bumpers. 2. Go look with someone who has owned and driven them for years. 3. Dont buy one loaded with "bling" (chrome this, chrome that, boot rack, walnut dash, extra pointless guages, non factory steering wheels, roll bars, wing mirrors etc). Before you pay walk away and think of all the other things you could do with the asking price and as much again keeping it on the road for the next 10 years. Good luck ! ( a long time mgb driver)

Alternator doesn’t charge at idle for a lot of older vehicles. It doesn’t matter because it’s a mechanical diesel - even down to the fuel stop, which is electric even on cars from the early 80s. You could have a completely dead battery and keep driving but it could get worrying at night!

Salut. Your accent would (to me) suggest you have lived away from Northern Ireland for a number of years, however your origins sound very clear to me. At age 70 and having left Ulster back in 1972 apparently I also retain my accent. A thick felt mat loosely attached to the bonnet as large as possible, absorbs a lot of top end rattle. Foam glued underneath bonnet is rubbish. Double shag pile carpet is what you want. And I found a good transmission tunnel cover and thick mats in the footwells grab a fair bit of noise too. You have the latter but it may get darker but I sound deadened the underside of my roof and some of the sides and put foam soundproofing on as well. I’ve painted it grey so it doesn’t look very obvious, but the condensation is dramatically reduced and the echo box has the edge taken off it. 200 tdi in mine, also not a quiet engine, and it’s quite reasonable at 50/55 volume wise.

Your MGB GT looks very good. I recently bought a 1971 model and thought it was fine! Famous last words, it was all over the road and gave me a fright! The front suspension bushes were completely shot, I don't know when it last saw a grease gun! It has been fitted with a telescopic front and rear conversion, but the bushes were badly worn. I have completely stripped the front suspension, and the crossmember is getting powder coated. So far, it's been a money pit!

Have always fancied at Mk1 Mini myself! I really do like my diesel for its simplicity and reliability. I did a complete rebuild of a 1978 swb about twelve years ago and I remember all the parts being cheap then. Bought a galvanised chassis with the papers you need and started working. As I got many parts from a friend from England, the biggest problem for me was to find the parts necessary for LHD. These parts in the end came from al over Europe. Also mounted a capstan winch, overdrive, free wheeling hubs. Very satisfying to do. Tax free in the Netherlands as well and insurance is €5,00 a month. Still needs MOT (APK) here until it's 50 ears old, but passed "met vlag en wimpel" (without any advisory or whatever problem) again a month ago. Now mainly used for hauling fire wood and the odd job. A decent fully synth oil will be better and for storage, think about using a decent fuel stabiliser as well (stabil is a good one).
