The Provo and Ogden temples came about when David O McKay wanted an assessment made on how to make the existing temples more efficient. It turned out building two new temples made more sense than extensive remodels of existing temples. Money was tight and so David O McKay wanted the same design for both because it would be cheaper. They were the first temples based around multiple instruction rooms surrounding a central celestial room. They were very efficient temples and a lot of ordinance work was done in them. That’s the important part. The temples might be temporal structures but the ordnances performed in them are eternal.

Thanks Br. Tanner for the video! For those wondering I actually have an uncle who worked in the department of the church that decided the demolition of the Provo temple. So for those curious basically what it comes down to is the issue was when the temple was built in the 1970s it was made of novel materials and innovative materials of it's time, however, these materials later proved problematic. The issue that sealed the fate of the Provo temple though was that the foundation of the temple had gone bad and would have to be replaced, combine that with the fact the outside walls also had issues, and all the piping and wires, ventilation and everything had to be taken out too, plus the temple itself would not withstand a major earthquake. As a result when it came down to it, if you take out the walls, and foundation, and have to replace all the wires and pipes you start wondering what is left. Hence it was easier to tear it down and rebuild it than try to fix it. Plus with the new temple, design they are going to make it larger and give it more rooms for temple work which many temple leaders deeply wanted. The Ogden temple, which is this temple's sister had the same problems. In fact, plans for the demolition of Provo were known back in 2010 when Ogden was being redesigned as the temple are identical so they decided to do both at the same time. However, Salt Lake, Jordan River, and other temple renovations took priority as they were in more desperate need of repair and the church didn't want to close all the biggest temples at the same time for renovation (we had fewer temples back then). So Provo was put as a lower priority, especially as the Provo City Center temple took precedence due to the tabernacle burning down. The point I guess I'm trying to make is this wasn't a spontaneous decision, the problems with this design had been known about for a long time. It is sad to see it go, but also at the end of the day it is a house of the Lord and we must keep the lord's houses working so they can do their work for him. We try our best but sometimes we have to fix our mistakes. Once the new replacement is built it will help serve the lord in the same way the old one did. (Remember even the temple at Jerusalem has been rebuilt multiple times in its history too). The new temple is going to be great and will be able to do far more work than the old one was able to do and do it much better, we need the temples working for all the work we have ahead. It's going to be great, I'm looking forward to it.

I don’t buy the excuses for why it’s coming down. There are way many more buildings in Utah County still standing that have worse infrastructure problems.

I still don't know why the Provo Temple needed to come down! What a sad day when a temple is destroyed. It was an iconic temple which showed up every time there was a BYU football game. It will be curious to see what shows up over the next few seasons.

I understand that the old building needed rebuild due to some poor infrastructure for its plumbing, electrical, and main structure and to meet current building codes.

I understand that most the main panels were carefully removed before the demolition rather than destroyed. Does anyone know if there is a plan to reuse them?

The Ogden Temple was of similar design and the inner core was saved when it was remodeled a few years ago, I'm curious why the Provo Temple was not similarly remodeled instead of being completely gutted. ... thx for the posting!

How true! For 150 years my paternal family proudly claimed ancestry to the King of Sweden. My research and DNA proved it NOT so. Many of the family hung on to their belief and refused to remove him from their family tree. Really? DNA does not lie and they would prefer to proudly claim a man who used his position, wealth and power to dance around Europe with his pants around his ankles? Just found your videos. If Robert had ever been interviewed in such a venue he'd have been more forgiving of her difficulties. It has been my experience that those who are able to give a clear focused and concise reply in such times are more often than not more regurgitating a canned presentation than they are giving reasoned reply to the questions posed. The only difficulty I had at all with this particular presenter is entirely my own shortfall in that I sometimes have problems with accents and in this instance fell into my worst difficulty of getting lost in the melodious timber and losing my own focus in my enjoyment of same. As to her physical attributes I hardly think they are at all germane though I'd agree with the observation and would offer apology if Mz van den Belt is at all offended.

Thank you James, I am a retired title researcher of 45 years and have been looking at online genealogy web sites. So far I really like myheritage and Findmypast, I totally agree with you that you have to lock down the location where your ancestors lived before you do anything else. I find myself working out of myheritage and syncing to family search and using Findmypast and maps to verify the 5-6 mile rule. It has helped me accelerate my research immensely. In title searching you can’t make any mistakes, when we produce a title report and policy it had better be right, unless you like paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in claims. When I started my genealogy research I was appalled at the quality of records but is is getting much better now. About thirty years ago I purchased Salt Lake County’s database and re-indexed it so I could do fast and accurate search because the county was not properly inputting the data correctly. My company is the only one in the world that has this database. I enjoy your KZfaq channel, keep up the good work. DJ Cope

I always thought a GEDCOM would have a diagrammatical TREE', showing info boxes that could be added to or altered and updated, that could be copied and shared with other family members who could add their own stuff. My on line tree is like that, but without the ability to transfer to DVD--disappointing.
