The offshore breakwater just shows why coral reefs provide excellent natural habours for ships and boats.

the "break water" near the end is basically what coral reefs do! And oyster reefs in cold water. If we restore nature we'd be so much better off. This is one of the benefits of the Reef Life Foundation--their substrate is nature based so it immediately creates the "break water" and provides habitat for coral species. It's the fastest, best coral restoration thing I've seen and it's comparatively affordable.

What about putting the cheap bag of rocks instead of building that dirt bar? Also, what about the effects of errosion on all of these structures? How long would they last before needing maintenance?

Actually, what you called vertical screen is more used as a grate, so beavers don't put a dam inside a culvert, and it's suppossed to catch debris as it's main task
