“Send you up the river like you’re looking for Kurtz..” Direct reference to Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella ‘Heart Of Darkness’ upon which the 1979 movie ‘Apocalypse Now’ was based. The character of Colonel Walter R Kurtz in ‘Apocalypse Now’ was played by Marlon Brando and was based on the ivory trader character Kurtz in ‘Heart Of Darkness’. The famous words “The horror, the horror.” also came from Kurtz in ‘Heart of Darkness’.

Martin Carthy never sold out on his art and for that should be much commended. He was also never afraid to air his opinion on any subject. He would never have made it as a politician! Love all three of 'em.

Been searching for this song for decades. First heard it mid 90s on a random mix tape that had no track list and only had the "ciao ceaucescu bald headed male whore" part stuck in my young brain.

When i was 18 a co worker at a restaurant made me a mixed tape with this song on it. That taped changed and opened up so much music to me. SMASHING PUMPKINS, BLUR, THROWING MUSES, NIN, MINISTRY, SOUNDGARDEN, AND MORE.

Got dragged to a show in Seattle in tyhe 1990s by my Russian roommate who adored grunge music (I wasn't a huge fan but I liked Sergei) and it was the band "Live", and Fatima Mansions was opening. I'd never heard of them before and was one of the very few audience members extremely excited by their performance. They were amazing, totally outperformed all the other acts and basically got no response from the audience but boos and silence, it was horrible but I was so blown away by them that I managed to score one of the posters that had been stapled up by the entrance to the venue. I still love their music and obviously am still looking up versions on youtube 35-ish years later so FWIW I honestly think they're one of the greatest bands of all time. The lyrics are still relevant and the messages are very powerful indeed. Just pure genius, absolutely amazing. Thanks for uploading this.

Nye Bevan oozed integrity, principals, passion, compassion and was taken too soon. His contribution to national life outlived him and proved his worth.

*practiced as ripping off other artists, whether it be Q-tip or Joy Division. Perhaps if he'd taken the time to develop his own style...but I can't see people going for someone who is authentically the son of a record company executive.
