Thanks for posting, I liked this video. I would not recommend a .22 HW30s for a beginner. I suspect it would be harder to shoot than a .177 due to the very low MV, but I could be wrong. Overall though the HW30s makes a lot of sense for lots of people!
@MigsOnGuns

Thanks for watching! I agree the 177 makes more sense in the HW30S as the 22 version does have a slow velocity. The 22 is just an advantage for someone in Canada as the faster 177 version requires a gun license and the 22 version does not.

@@MigsOnGuns Hey man, I definitely recommend trying a compact scope. A couple of good options for the HW30; Hawke Vantage 2-7x 32mm AO (there is an IR version of this scope also), or Hawke Airmax 2-7x 32mm AO, which is similar but with a finer glass etched reticule. Just make sure whatever scope you get is focus adjustable eg has an Adjustable Objective or Side Focus feature with a distance range which starts suitably close for low power airgun shooting eg ~10m. Scopes which are not focus adjustable are typically fixed at 100yds (the distance which will be 'parallax error free') and are better suited for shooting further out using higher power guns. Also, a graduated type reticule to aid with holdover is quite useful for airguns and good quality mounts prevent unwanted scope movement.

@@MigsOnGuns I use SportsMatch mounts which are good quality, made in the UK and they have that arrestor pin thingy (the pin can be removed using a punch if required). They make lots of different variants so you need to spec carefully before ordering. The ones I have fitted are two piece, double screw, 11mm dovetail, 1" tube, medium height and the 32mm AO scope clears the cylinder/receiver of the rifle by approximately 5mm which is comfortable and looks about right. They also offer low height mounts also but without careful measuring I'm unsure if they would work.

HW30 is an excellent, high quality little spring rifle and great for use as a garden gun. It has an 11mm dovetail rail and is worthy of a scope should you wish to fit one. Try a selection of different pellets and with practice you will find it's capable of surprising accuracy, it also has enough power to take small game at short range (although I would recommend something more powerful for a dedicated hunting air rifle). The beauty of the relatively low power and low noise is it's very easy to cock, safe on your ears and you're unlikely to upset neighbors. If you have space, with due care you can even set up a range indoors. For less cost, another good beginner gun is the Daisy 880 multi pump pneumatic.

Migs, I'm a long time user of airguns in the UK. Your review is totally refreshing in that it highlights the fun you can have with a quality low-powered air gun. I can see a case for using a more powerful air rifle in a hunting situation, but one of the beauties of lower power is its usability and fun factor for all the family. Many thanks.

I think one of the best springpowered rifles, maybe the best. Own a .177 HW30s too and with a (great) no name "high performance" spring from SWS/germany now perfect for my use. If you buy a springrifle for the first time, I would buy a quality rifle like this. Otherwise you get a wrong view about the sport and maybe you will be bored after a short time, because it will not work fine and your results are not so good as they could be. I own a lot of guns, but the HW30 is one of my favorite. I can shoot it nearly everywhere, in between, its lightweight, "führig"(cant say it in english ;-) ) and the record trigger its one of the best on the market I think so. Its not really cheap, but you get a rifle for life. greetings from the birth-country of any Weihrauch :-)

Thank you for the suggestion, I hadn’t heard of that ammo. According to Norma’s website, they advertise the Eco Speed’s energy at 160 ft-lbs. I get all my.22 rimfire ammo from Clearwater cartridge company. Grew up there. 12 years old, 1970, got a rugger 10/22, real American walnut stock. $49.00. Tierney's I.G.A. groceries store was my ammunition place. Mom and Dad had a charge account. Mom would let me go get two boxes of mine mag's, and Mrs Tierney would hand me a clip board with a paper and said 2 boxes .22 cartridge's @ .57c each and I would sign my name. I would Head out the door and start loading up my one and only 10 round magazine and place it in the mag well, carried the rifle in to the store on my shoulder, with a nice leather sling. Walk about two miles down to the canyon and start hunting. Good ole days! Still shoot the 10/22 regularly. Never had an issue with the ammo that comes from Clearwater cartridge company! A.K.A. C.C.I.
