A friend of mine who runs his own shop once told me regarding certain vintages of GM products: "I'd rather slam my dick in a door than work on this P.O.S." That said, there are both great and foul examples in every marque of truck and automobile. We love 'em all but tolerate the crap so that we may enjoy the good stuff.

@@Stratemannauto As soon as I saw the damage to the casting inside the housing I knew it was toast. Good job on being thorough. I sadly know there will be mechanics who cut corners, or are in a hurry, and just miss or ignore that damage. My guess is even with that mileage the rear axle wasn't serviced regularly.

Open circuit voltage only shows available voltage. Load tests actually show usuable voltage. An incandescent test light wouldn't have lit up in this situation and could have been a quick giveaway. I still much prefer testing the actual voltage like you did because some of these new computers wont work right if theyre half a volt short of where they want to be.

They don't come with the filter or the access to one from factory. That's why he had to cut an access panel for the aftermarket cover and filter. Idk why a good amount of domestic cars doesn't come with them, but honda and Toyota do.

@@Back_door_bandit_98 true, the 2004-2008 F-150's don't have a cabin filter, the Expedition of the same model years, which uses the same air box, has an air filter. In fact, there is space in the air box for a filter in the F-150's, but it's blocked internally.
