Thank you so much for this! I’ve been playing sax for ~5 years now and I was just never really taught the importance of scales. As I’m going through to relearn the basics, this video helped me out so much. Thank you!!!

Thanks Paul, a very helpful video. I find it all to easy to waste my practice time by not following a specific plan. I think I have the practice time and duration under control but I really need to work on the content. Thanks again.

I found this video looking for resources for my niece (beginner alto sax) so that she can come to our open jam next time she visits. We always warm up with a blues in E. It's my understanding that if we're playing Blues in E she would play the c# minor Pentatonic on alto sax? Does that sound right I'm not familiar with saxophone transposition I just know that they play in a different key than guitar/keys. Would love any other videos or resources you can point me to for blues in concert E ! Thank you!

Hi! Found this looking on info to help my neice jam with me (I play guitar). I'm trying to find a pentatonic scale for her to use to jam with me if I'm doing blues in like E or A . I understand that the sax notes don't match up But I'm having the hardest time finding any kind of info on what she can play to jam with our group if we're doing something like blues in e or A . Any advice or Even point me to a resource? I bought her two blues books but they don't seem to address this. If I understand correctly she can't just play the e pentatonic because the instrument essentially has a different starting point?

Hi, yes you're right she needs to "transpose" the key your playing on guitar into the right key. If you Google "how to transpose to to alto saxophone" it should bring up a few bits to explain further. But a quick guide would be that she needs to play in the key a minor third down from your guitar key. So your A becomes her F# and your E becomes her C#. For some easy keys for her to jam in (like D, A, and E on saxophone) you would need to play blues in F, C or G respectively. Hope that helps! :)

Hello Paul, I'm sax beginning player, could you give me some tips how to know out when my reed is dead and it 's time to change it
@sherzadqaderi88887 ай бұрын
Hi 'just wanted to appreciate your efforts ' but unfortunately I could not get benefits from most your videos due to the fast moments and nucleare fingerings alt lease as a begginer .
@PaulHaywood7 ай бұрын
Hi, yes sorry the video isn't extremely close on the fingers. I recorded it with bigger screens in mind. All I can recommend is to try and play the video on a bigger screen (as I do intentionally exaggerate the finger movements through the video) and also you can use the playback speed function on KZfaq to slow the video down. Hope that helps.
