Living in the UK in the early 90's, there were 4 key bands that were breaking out as relevant, or cool. Radiohead, Blur, Oasis and the Manic Street Preachers. I heard all of these bands key albums, and it was the Manic Street Preachers that won me over.

John said it, not the Fabs. And Jeff Lynne, who essentially took the concept of Sgt Pepper and ran with it. At the beginning it was a Karaoke with 10538 Overture too close to Dear Prudence and George Harrison's use of step down notes deployed in several songs including Something. Lynne's other big influence was Roy Orbison and you can hear that in many ELO songs. But he did mature into a great all round musician, writer and producer who has worked his butt off and still does. Liam isn't particularly educated about the Fabs or music in general. He is a natural who gravitated to John Lennon's voice and personality - it turned him on and he isn't unique in that. So many take a lead from the man.
