Beautiful collection you have there. Do they prefer a cooler ambient temperature in comparison to the hot spot? Or would you say they do better with just an overall warmth with just a small temperature gradient.

Thank you Garry! They prefer a temperature gradient and often go between the hot and cool areas so it’s important both are offered.

what’s the hardest part about keeping gila monsters/beaded lizards?
@goatsbysgilas
@goatsbysgilas 6 ай бұрын
Heloderms are generally very easy to keep given they have the right diet and living conditions. I would say the most difficult part is breeding as it takes a lot of time and dedication, but for general keeping it is smooth sailing as long as you purchase a healthy, legal Gila or beaded from a reputable source.

This was such a fantastic video! Sadly I live in Utah where the gila monster is our state reptile, and is very illegal to keep without a permit. I absolutely love coming across them in the wild though, and have had the opportunity to find two beautiful little guys while out hiking. Are the banded gilas you show around 5:00 & 6:00 from Washington County, Utah? The gilas here have a few unique color morphs found nowhere else.

Thank you for the kind comment! My dream is to see a Gila in the wild so you certainly have me beat there! Unfortunately I do not know what area my Gilas may have lineage from but if you have photos from this area I would love to see them. Gilas truly are like snowflakes, and all of them are amazing. I love finding old Gila pics from the late 1800's and early1900's to see how they look and am always in awe of the variety and patterns. Thanks again for stopping by!

Ohhh thank you-this was great to watch and really helpful! I discovered a Gila monster living under one of my porches several months ago and I’ve become kind of obsessed with it.😂❤ I thought it was a boy, so I named him Chuck Norris, but now I’m not really sure… It’s been a particularly hot and dry summer here, with hardly any rain-so every couple weeks I do a “Chuck check” on him, to drop off a little dish of water and a dead mouse snack (if I happened to catch one in the barn on a Chuck check day…lol) But this last time that I checked, I am quite certain I saw something that looked like an egg down in Chuck’s little burrow!! So now I’m obsessively researching/watching videos about gilas, because I honestly don’t know very much about them (even though I’m from their natural habitat range)… Sorry for the long babbling comment!! I’m just super excited after watching your video, because I thought it was probably way too late in the year for Chuck to actually have any eggs/babies. But yours were hatching near Halloween of last year…so now I have my fingers crossed that I might get to see a tiny baby Gila monster in the next month or two!! ❤️🥹

That is so awesome thank you for replying! I would love to hear more about the potential nest as only one has been found so if you have one by you that is truly amazing. I would love to know more about the nest (size, depth, how many eggs, substrate), so please send me an email. Please do not put any location information as we do not want any poachers creeping about your place!

@@goatsbysgilas whoah! I had no idea it was *THAT* rare of a thing to see! Now I’ll be sure to keep an even closer eye on Chuck (ohhh or maybe I can setup some sort of video feed/livestream pointed at the entrance!🤔) Thank you! I really appreciate the warning about poachers! Because although I am pretty careful’ish with any personal location information I put on the internet-I genuinely would’ve never thought to be careful about potential poachers! Luckily, even if someone figured out my location, it would still be an insanely difficult (and dangerous) task for a poacher to steal anything. I live in an isolated agricultural community with only appx. 150 residents and a single road running through it… Nobody comes here unless they have a reason to, because it’s literally impossible for someone to just “accidentally” find their way here. It’s a massive, barely populated area and it’s incredibly easy to get seriously lost and find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. The “icing on the cake” is that GPS navigation gets messed up and doesn’t work properly out here for some reason-so all visitors to the area need to be given very detailed/specific directions to where they are going (or be physically guided to their destination). Because of that- “outsider” vehicles are usually spotted within minutes (any time, day or night) and residents will start calling/texting each other to see who is expecting visitors and asking if we need to guide the person to where they’re going. It’s all kinda cute and also completely ridiculous.🤣 So, even if the poachers somehow made it through _that_ hurdle unseen, they would then be faced with 2 layers of electric fences, numerous security cameras, an alarm system, 4 large guard dogs and a very pissed off me (I swear I’m not a drug lord- there are legitimate reasons why I have such beefy security on my farm!🤣). Anyway, back to Chuck… In the next few days I’ll crawl under that porch and try to see if I can find out more details about the little burrow/nest and the possible egg situation, without causing Chuck any distress (since it’s suuuuper illegal to touch, annoy, step in their path and/or harass them in any way out here). I know it’s also probably illegal for me to give Chuck water and occasional mouse snacks….but I’m a Gila sucker and I guess I’ll just have to cross that bridge when I get there!😆❤️ (Annnnd once again, my comment is basically book length. Whoops!)

Hello, thanks for watching the video! The short answer is yes, some males and females can cohabitate without any issues but you would need to introduce them first to see how they react to each other. I have some females that will not tolerate certain males, so just take care and always put the health and well-being go the Gila first.
