Hello, the brush I used here is called the happy dot! It’s a very reliable orientalist brush! It’s very smooth and hold its shape! Mine I had for over 20 years! With orientalist brush it always came with glue so they needed to be soaked in lukewarm water for few hours and rinse completely! They are no different than any western brush and may shed a hair or two in beginning which doesn’t bother me! If you want other videos here I talked about my brushes a lot! Very cute painting. Often times I will come across tutorials on KZfaq and let them play in the background while I'm working on my own paintings. It's almost like having a friend over to get creative with me. I've been painting off and on for about 50 years and I'm STILL learning new things. You have a very calming demeanor and voice so I'm subscribing. Hummingbirds btw are one of my favorites to paint!

Hi Kathy! I love this hummbird and am saving my best paper for it. Just waiting for happy dot, flow brish, and zero fine point brushes to arrive from OAS...should be here on Monday. Since shipping charge is so ridiculous, might as order mutiple brushes at the same time 😊. I think I've painted about 8-10 of your painting and just love them! Hi Kathy! I'm looking into ordering a few more brushes from Amazon and was wondering where you got the small fine tip brush that is used on many of your paintings (including this this owl). I've recently purchased the happy dot brush from Amazon and have been struggling with it; either has to be really saturated to get a fine tip or as soon as I dry it off some, the bristles get kinda wild so basically having a hard time finding the sweet spot between pigment vs water. Hoping not all squirrel brushes behave like this so thought I'd give the Dugato brushes a try and the fine tip one you're using for the owl. Can you give me the name of the fine tip brush. How do you like the Dugato ones that your daughter bought you? Thank you! - Kyra C.

Hello thank you for asking questions! If you go to my blog sunsetpeonies.com, there’s a products I use! The fine line one is called zero brush from oriental art supplies , it’s a very good brush! It costs about three dollars but their shipping is 10 dollars! They also sell happy dotI am still searching for a very timeline brush we can order from Amazon but not yet find anything! In my recent paintings you can see in description link for Amazon Japanese brushes but they are not as fine as zero brush! Zero brush is weasel hair I think! Try not to get synthetic because in my experience they go bad very quickly especially in the size of very fine line! I hope this help thank you!

Hi Kathy, I'm going to paint the fairy hut along with you tonight 😊. Only question I have is if you used the fine tip Micron pen for your sketch as opposed to pencil before the painting part, or did you do it after the painting? You might have mentioned it in the video so I apologize if you did!

Hi, so I actually do it before and let it dry for like 15 mins! Reason is because it’s an illustration so the micron will not cause painting to be too cartoonish? If that make sense! I used to do micron a lot so I decided to use that on this painting!!! Have fun!!!

Hello I have to go watch video to refresh memory! At about 2:09 it said mix of paynes gray and indigo! Looks like it’s not very intense! So usually I would pick up some paynes gray color and dip tip of brush on some indigo that are diluted! More gray than indigo I think!!!

I can see what I can do! I painted a loon someone commissioned me, and it was a lot of work because of the white! I will have to think about it, can we not paint the white? lol! Yeah I will think and see if it’s something that everyone can do! Thank you for suggestion!

My grandma has requested a loon and I think painted like 4 or 5 attempts cause they’ve turned out too poor… so if I could see you do one, I’m sure it would help me a lot!! I still haven’t succeeded … haha yes! Why must we paint the white ?? 😂 . it would look so pretty if I could just figure out how to do it haha.
