I could not do it, to say good bye for a long time. Wrong, I did do it. I said good bye to my parents and hopped on Pan Am Clipper to America, not to see my parents for 3 years, until I had permanent residency in America. That was 30 years ago. And I never regretted it, it was the best thing in my life. But I did miss out on a lot of family interaction, even though my twice a year visits back to Europe were really special each time. Maybe I could not do it anymore, at my age. What a great video.

Every time you say torch , we Americans are worried that you are about to burn something down. Luckily, at work , our expert for English cultural affairs explained, that that is merely referring to a flash light : ) Love that British culture aspect of your videos, so cute :)

I zapped myself with 110V before, while incorrectly wiring a plug for my electric car charger. I am glad I don t have to deal with your 220V over there, especially on a boat. Amazing video. Love it.

You just bought yourself a multimeter : ) I know the feeling. Been there, done that, just with my house, not a boat. The joys of having a multimeter : ) I could not imagine life without it : )

Amazing, coax splicing, stripping, aerial install, all while hanging 30 feet in the air. And then soldering, riveting, epoxy bonding aluminum, and on and on , you guys are great :)

Another fabulous episode - thank you both! Pure coincidence then that I just bumped into the Clipper fleet previous weekend, as it was about to leave Oban, having arrived from Washington DC over the preceding weeks and now bound for final leg back to Portsmouth! Hope you got to have an EPIC birthday too Becka :-) Have a great week and good sailing.

You guys are stubborn as ….You still believe that chain will dissipate the static discharge? Why do you make your ship into a lighting rod? Stop doing that as it only may work in reverse. Be advised that 95% of lighting strikes come from below. They called feeders. On water they are below the surface but on land you may see them. Don’t make your ship into an antenna as you do tossing that chain overboard. It’s wiser to make your boat wet.

Right from the start I was thinking how good the video quality was, much better than GoPro, and then you said you had a heavy camera which made sense! 😁 I grew up in Snowdonia, moved to Brighton for 10 years, then one day decided I just had to go back, sold my flat and moved back to Snowdonia, took up fell running and wild camping and have been loving it ever since, you sound like you'd love wild camping high up in the mountains, it adds yet another dimension of feeling like you're in the wilderness.

If you're set on Celestial (a dark and noble art), I recommend " Waren Norville Celestial Navigation Step by Step". He teaches the classic HO 299 method, but as a professional navigator, he also teaches HO 211 Agetons tables. A faster but slightly less accurate reduction. The theory is that fixes from small boats inherently have more error than the tables, so there is no loss. Also, you can get a used Davis Plastic Sextant for little money. They are great for learning. Much lighter, and to start with your arm will get tired while you're learning. All though a proper metal sextant is a work of art and something to cherish. I wouldn't put off the learning because of the cost when a good plastic can be piced up for about 90 US. If you like it, then look around for the one you will keep forever.

It always annoys me when operators want to charge excessive fees for little or no service. Not only are they trying to rip you off, but they make you decide not to land there and so not only do they not get paid, but the businesses behind their ''paywall'' miss out on what you otherwise might have spent, because of their greed!

From a 30foot to 40foot it's not 10% difference, it's 33% more. So its not exponencially more expensive, its less since she said its about 20% more.

Just call it the “pointy bit” Zack, we know what ya mean. At the other end it’s the “flat bit” with corners. So as long as the wind is on either cheek and not at ya crack at the helm, then the pointy bit will move along just fine. Love to ya both.
