Awesome hike, Stephen! I will definitely check out Blackwater Creek. You’re one of the very few folks that I know who know about “bull bats”! In my youth, I saw and heard them just about every evening during the summer. Their diving sound is so cool. But I haven’t seen/heard one in many years now. Thanks for your trips and insights!

I've followed my gut before and ended up miles off. I think you are right with the blazes. They burned them off. It's great that there is someone who can hand out a map and offer help. At the beginning, you said Stephen. Is it Stephen, Steven, or Steve. I don't want to assume and get it wrong. I always carry too much water with me after running out on a hike a year or so ago. It is certainly a beautiful wooded area. Is it true that if a Gator is after you on land that you run in a zigzag, or is that an old wives tale? I get it with the road walk. It does my feet in. I did 12.33 miles today and 2247 feet of elevation and then the same down again. My feet hurt 😂. Thanks for sharing.
@walkeroutdoorsadventures852129 күн бұрын
I think I’d take my chances running straight instead of zigzagging. Gators are pretty fast for a short distance. I have never known of a gator actually chasing something down on land they usually have short bursts as they ambush prey. It is Stephen.

The Lady Ranger at that park is awesome very friendly and helpful...I love that place! I had my bear encounter camping in the backwoods campsite in the middle of the night there. Yes...I reommend bear spray,,,I carry it with me all the time. You can get bear spray at REI and most outdoors store have it. Wal Mart may have some too. I think you may have been going in circles..I blame technology and aps...paper maps are always correct in my opinion! I got lost in the Jumper Creek wilderness years ago. In Colt Creek follow the numbers! Those gators love the culverts!
