Quite possibly the worst Instructional video I’ve ever seen in my life. Conveniently skips over some important , and coincidentally - very difficult steps . Most importantly, they require you to move the regulator up and down to remove it . If it worked , why would I be replacing it !??? Idiots .

I'm curious as to where the mechanic is prying when he pulls the swing arm down. Is he under the axle? There's so much aluminum down there that I'd hate to damage it, but the axles seems iffy as well . I tried putting the end of the pry bar under the shock-mount nut, but didn't really have the kind of bite I needed. And why do most of these videos always edit out the hardest parts in wrestling the integral link and/or swing arm into position. These things appear in place like it magically set itself right? Not fair, guys.

Still looking for the DIY video that doesn't require $2k worth of special tools and a training certification from Porsche.

What really irratates me about this rebuild and all other similar videos, there is no point in this video that exposes a very serious problem with this method of repair. Allow me to explain: on the end of the motor shaft is a worm drive...or better said a machined thread that is basically "acme" thread. Acme thread by design is square on top and in the valley of the machined pitch. The primary reason the plastic gear becomes wore (as exposed in this video) is because the thread pitch on the Acme worm drive becomes wore to become knife-edged. This knife edge pitch disengages from the gear teeth on the plastic gear, and basically chews off the top of teeth on the plastic gear. Thence it would behoove the mechanic to inspect the worm gear on the motor when it is pulled out from the assembly. If there is wear as I described, it would be a waste of time and money to bother with putting in a new plastic gear, because the worm drive will chew the plastic gear in short time. There are new motors available, if the mechanic insists upon rebuilding the actuator. Also there are inexpensive new actuators available that are not made by BMW. Good luck

I think this video is great & after watching / re-watching it step by step as I went, I have succeeded in this project. However, I feel it skimmed over the adjustment techniques. The 'adjuster bolt" (at 6:50 mark & supposedly used spl tool # 1739) requires to be placed on the inside of the car / slot for the regulator assy. The bottom two -- screw in all the way into the reg assy and then be careful when adjusting. The top 'adjuster bolt' (behith the front seat belt) should also be inside. Then I could match the 13mm nut to lock in the settings (all 3). I fought with this aspect (unknowingly) for 3 days. Once I re-started and caught this item, all worked within 5 minutes (then an hour to re-assemble the rest of the car). Thanks guys. I hope this helps someone. 2008 VW Beetle Convertible.

Im having a bad time with mine. Bolt didnt even look rusty like this one. Was able to get the bolt to spin thought it was smooth sailing but be warned ! The bolt will turn making it own thread pattern but it could stop at any point. So here i am cut the head of the bolt cut back the threads on the other side because it mushroomed. Gonna borrow a air compressor soon and use my air hammer hopefully strong enough to blast this friggen bolt out. This is not an easy task for a DIY i suggest just pay a shop wayyy less headache

Excellent video and tutorial, my rear window regulator broke with the window stuck down, just after replacing my front drivers side regulator. I wish they made a better quality regulator with metal pulleys instead of the plastic ones that seem to be the cause of the regulator breaking.

Anyone still struggling with this because of space, or you have a bigger exhaust you don't want to drop- cut the cable, and sometimes the smaller section where the wire connects smacks off with a hammer. Also get a cheap ratcheting box wrench to really get low profile! 7/8 I think
