I have been doing lobs as far back as a few years ago, when it was poopooed by everybody as low skill level shot. LOL Not anymore! I have a pretty consistent lob and use it often. I am not called the "Lobster." :) Great video, Nicole. Lots of great advice, as usual.

I guess the big question is whether we should be changing grip throughout a game, during a point? I tend to use a slice return on my backhand, as it is an easier shot to play - especially if using a continental grip. But is there enough time to see the serve (or any shot for that matter) is coming to my backhand to change grip and deliver a top-spin shot?

Do you recommend using the Slinger balls that come with the bag or a ball more likely used in tournaments or league play like Franklin or Selkirk? Great tips, thanks!

you missed the main reason for the increase in power. It comes from your off hand, if you notice in the more powerful shots, his off hand followed the ball much further twisting his hips and shoulder and then the follow through you can see his left hand finish much further away twisting his core. All your power comes from the kinetic chain starting in your off hand/arm

Many years ago, I spent two years working at the US Olympic Training Center. One of the things that impressed me the most was how relentless the top athletes were at addressing their weaknesses. They were also incredibly disciplined in their training. Some of them had some really nice necklaces that only get handed out every four years.

Any chance you could do a video on the two handed backhand? Just got a new pebble from Crush that has a longer handle that was designed for the two handed shot

Great video. Muchas Gracious. My 1st issue is I was not turning my torso for backhand shots and pulling/injuring my shoulder. My 2nd issue I was not hitting the ball in front of my body, but rather on the side of my body and this was causing me to lose tracking of the ball and to lose speed/reaction time to hit the ball.

Instead of providing this instruction we be better of if you focus on technique used by men in black outfit on this video. He does all the opposite to the instructions and his shots are aggressive and effective. He used to spin with slight wrist acceleration , his slice has slight elbow bend and his footwork has much more steps than the coach recommended

Thank you so much for focusing on this important topic! I wish I had seen this video a year ago. I thought I was athletic enough as a 70 year old having played tennis and sports all my life. I've been sidelined for the last two months after playing p-ball for a year off and on and not warming up. The turning point came 2 mths ago playing at a v. high hitting level with my son (he's about a 4.5) for 3 hours. Something happened to my hip and ankle - on top of a shoulder that had healed 6 months ago from over exertion. I was already doing wall sits for my quads, hamstring stretches, and arm and shoulder stretches. Thankfully, with PT, acupuncture and infrared massagers, I am getting there. It's frustrating to be sidelined but know that in the long run, being in shape and warming up will ensure my longetivity on the court.

The lob to left corner ( backhand), is a 88% 'attacking lob'. Almost impossible to take. One can possibly control a safer defensive return with 'switching hands' as doing it with a back hand is very 'wristy' and a problem to return.

I'm smoking fools playing deep. Seems like everyone I play is trying to get to the kitchen and I just place a hard shot opposite line. I come from a table tennis background and picked up on pickleball fast. I'm looking to enter a tournament here soon.

I see that finishing slice with relaxed wrist in a whipping motion dramatically increases spin, reduces elevation and increases depth but it also reduces control and makes shot target point less predictable. So does the slice whip have future among pro players?

Yesss! Such a helpful video. Things I loved: - Your upfront framing with definitions and when drops should be used (vs drives). - You filmed the drops, edited to synchronize the different shots, and strategically used freeze frames and slow motion. This made it super easy to spot the differences. - Your commentary is concise, specific, and perfectly synchronized to the clips. Thank you!!!
