This just confirmed my suspicion that Alan Davies has been extremely attractive his entire adult life.

Chaotic academia at its finest -- kudos to you! And I do agree with your claim, as stated in a reply to @sxllxx7935 ten months ago, that their relationship is apt for this kind of game show: one that intends to educate and spark youthful curiosity whilst offering unhinged entertainment and rapidfire witticisms. The show is meant to incentivize learning about random stuff for the sake of learning, and it seems to have framed the interpersonal bonds (and taboo romances!) that one student may have with an incredibly charismatic mentor quite theatrically. It's so fascinating to think about, the production decisions and scripting of game shows in the UK. It all reminds me of the "Meeting the Mentor" phase of Campbell's monomyth/Hero's Journey, and... ooh, could we possibly shoehorn Ancient Greek pederastic relationships in there? Fry is a renowned philhellene and has written many books on classical matters (if only I could afford to BUY THEM-) I could spend _nights_ and nights on this.

Don't get me wrong, but watching these videos makes me feel a little weird after learning that Alan was molested by his father as a child.🤷🏻♂

Thanks for raising this. It's something that I thought about while I was making this and have kind of been waiting for an excuse to talk about. Cause the onscreen dynamic did indeed consist of comments, from both Stephen and Alan himself, which referenced Alan’s schoolboy caricature and the way Stephen and he played with it. Just one example being 6:37. Something I think is important to consider is how much stephen's gender and sexuality is what raised the question for us in the first. I think its important to be aware of the implications of labeling a fake dynamic inappropriate, when a large factor to us considering it up for debate is that Stephen is a gay man who has fake element of power as host over the panelists. For instance, Sandi “flirts” with Alan as well, and will take the opportunity to chide Alan when he gives a simple childlike answer. Obviously nowhere near the extent that Stephen does, but the key point is that she, unlike Alan's abuser, is a woman and a lesbian, but she holds the same power stephen does. (Genuinely asking!) if we should also call it into question when she jokes with Alan in the same way stephen did? Another aspect has to do with media literacy. Several people have also mentioned this, but stephen speaks to all the other panelists with this patronizing chastize/reward bit, its just that we observe it as meaning something more with alan because alan is in every episode and therefore he and stephen are the key players in the dynamic. I mention in my essay as well, but there’s this perceived “risk” in there being some kind of “real” relationship on the show making it somehow an actual dynamic. But these are performers and comedians who are playing parts as assigned by the producers. Both have spoken on how they act differently with one another off of QI, namely that stephen treats Alan with equal respect (and lack of flirtation lol). can give refs if curious. I can’t actually speak for either involved of course, but those are most of my thoughts for now. I’d like to hear what else you and other people have to say, and don’t at all want to appear over-reverent or blinded to circumstance and context and so on. But, again, I think its important to keep in mind the standards we are holding over these people and why we are holding them, as well as that they are performing parts which are productionally assigned to them.

😂 Just about crying with laughter. If there is more material found since this work of art was compiled, it begs for a Part II. How unbelievable it must be to be part of the live audience when these pair of Absolute Champion Humans spar back and forth with their banter. Entertaining, Educational and Funny beyond description. A stageshow "QI DOWNUNDER" would sell it's absolute arse off. A logistical nightmare with Stephen, Sandi and the 6 to 8 regular British celebrities to tour with them getting the same time off BUT wouldn't it be the best show ever.

So desperate to have affirmation that someone may be slightly gay. None of these comments are gay , just because you say someone is attractive doesn't mean you are gay. Kinda sad , if you're gay , be gay , who cares . You don't have to project it on everything else
