Pretty chill song! I have a few suggestions for you (use them or not, idrc lol): 1. Melodies need direction. They need to start somewhere, and they need to go somewhere. From your melody, it appears your song is in C# melodic minor. You start and end on a C#, but you don't introduce any musical tension (tension is interesting; it keeps your brain engaged with the music). For a repeated melody like yours, the way to do that can be accomplished by a unique, moving bassline. Your bassline does not change at all, which doesn't change the feeling of the melody the second, third, or fourth time per phrase it's played compared to the first. It sits on an E, which isn't even the root of the key signature you have set. This means that there's no resolution, and the bassline and melody disagree with each other the entire song. Without a changing bassline, there's nothing melodic or harmonic for the listener to attach to, and it'll get dry after only 30 seconds. Tension is good, but it can't be for the entire song. I encourage you to learn some music theory, it will help you understand how chord progressions and basslines work in relation to a melody. As a note, songs like Why Not by Ghostface Playa have the exact same melody and bassline throughout the entire song, but the reason it's interesting to listen to is because the beat is constantly changing and the melody and bassline is used as the atmosphere, not the main focus. 2. Extended repetition is bad. Humans naturally desire and want variety and change to the song every 2 phrases (in your song's case 8 bars). If you repeat the same exact loop for longer listeners will start to get bored. You can prevent this by doing many things, including but not limited to: Changing the beat, changing the melody, introducing a more complex bassline, adding/taking away instruments, introducing a new countermelody and intertwining it with the original melody, and even changing the tempo or key signature. Additionally, use things like risers and drum fills to lead up to the change so that the listener isn't left wondering if the same old beat is going to be what comes next, and use things like fallers and impact hits to make that transition satisfying. Ideally, making a change every 1 phrase is even better than 2 phrases, but it really depends on the person, song, and context. 3. Just like the melody, the entire song needs direction. What do you want the listener to feel at the beginning, middle, and end of the song? Experiment with the differences in desired intensity and mood by playing around with, but not limited to: Volume and individual dynamics of each instrument, eq and filters, stereo separation, panning, and changing the rhythm of instruments, especially percussion. 4. This is very nitpicky, but I wouldn't recommend using a melodic minor for your song unless you know what you're doing. Drift phonk is almost always in natural minor or phyrgian key signatures, and especially with the standstill bassline you're just creating more persistent tension within the seventh note of the scale by changing it from a B to a B sharp. All that being said, feel free to ignore my advice. I don't really care what you do with this. I'm an avid drift phonk lover and creator, and it's quite inspiring to see new talented artists put themselves out there. I myself am trying to improve at my music, and this is me just sharing what I've learned over many years of creating songs. I still have a long way to go, and there's probably someone who could write a similar comment to mine for me to use to improve. Ignore the guy who commented six poop emojis and called your song bad. Bad is only subjective when it comes to music, and it's only bad if you yourself believe it is. You have tons of potential, and I can't wait to see where you end up.
