While not perfect, the remake for this game was still *far* better than the remake of the first one. (Which was also decent but had its own problems as you have already mentioned well enough before) I agree that the few new additions are lame, but at least they are optional and aren't tied to achievements as far as I can tell. Even the whole one million roses thing isn't an achievement, which is surprising since most other publishers definitely would've done that, so I appreciate that they left out the tedium and only bothered to put achievements for stuff people would actually go for instead of making it unbearable. I would *not* be happy about achievements tied to Royal Reverie's ghost level for example. Overall though I am very pleased with the remake. We Love Katamari is one of the first games I accurately remember playing and as a result is one of my all time favorites, so I'm delighted that all of the important stuff that made it so good got carried over with some more ironing here and there. I think they heard everyone's complaints about the awfully priced DLC for once too because I got the whole game on the 2024 Steam summer sale with that DLC included for a total of $10. So at worst it meant the DLC was two and a half bucks, which is *way* easier to swallow. I don't really care about Touch My Katamari's music choices like you, but at least the rest of the tracks from the other games are solid and you get all the heavy hitters at least, so technically speaking the remake has the best complete overall soundtrack in the entire franchise. (It's kinda cheating but hey, I'm not gonna complain about some banger ass music fo the appropriate price. ...Bamco can fuck right off for what they are as a company though. It's bad enough they don't give a shit about Ms. and Jr. Pac-Man, so them pricing that poor excuse of a DLC at 20 dollars and not even give you proper seprate sundtrack files like many other games on Steam would feels like a personal attack in some way. They're really trying their hardest to be as shitty of a company as Nintendo I guess) I wish we could get more unique games by big publishers again. It's honestly a miracle that Namco even approved of Katamari Damacy to begin with, let alone allowing the creator to come back for the sequel after being s critical of such an idea. Without his return, we never would've gotten such a masterpeice, which is crazy to think about. This was back during Namco's final years as the true original company, and back when taking risks actually meant something with payoff. This was truly a time when most game compaies eveywhere were just simply putting out good actual games. You wouldn't see games like Katamari, Conker, (Him not being in Smash or at least PMEX/REX Remix yet is genuinely a crime) or Burnout being put out by big stuios today. The last time I can think of where something big and new actually happened with a big name is PlayStation taking on LittleBigPlanet, whichis yet another childhood favorite of mine. But after that it all kinda just stopped so abruptly from everyone. Sure Nintendo sometimes puts out new franchises every once in awhile, but I'd hardly call any of the newer ones unique, especially compared to stuff like Mother, F-Zero, Star Fox, Metroid, etc. etc., and all of those are now gone except for Metroid very recently, and I assume it is only because it came from the NES days when they made a first big impact with it basically starting whole new genres. Oh well, I'm just happy that this version of the game exists so that everyone an experience this small piece of absolute *peak* gaming. The "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews for the game itself on Steam is well deserved. Likewise, the few "Mostly Negative" reviews for the "DLC" is also deserved.

Honestly the lack of changes or additions in this game's remake is so bizarre after seeing what they did with the sequel, which while not much was at least *something.* And sure I get it, since the sequel is arguably the best game in the whole series for the vast majority of people they'd of course want to put some more attention to it, but doing almost nothing with the first game despite being just as iconic is weird... Funnily enough, I had the same concerns back then as well since I skipped Damacy and went straight for the sequel, and that was when I was 6 when the sequel first came out, so Reroll was my first time playing the original, unless you count some of the content in Forever which I also got when it was new and grew up with. (I also tried Me & My once from someone else, and actually got Touch My when that was new as well but I was 12 at that time and already had some problems with it. It's a shame that's what it so far ended on) And even after all that time it was still just as sluggish and barren. Make no mistake, I still like Katamari Damacy, and the charm helps so much, but it is the prime example of what a short game is. At least in terms of pure gameplay, it pales in comparison to most if not all of the main entries up to Forrver, with only Touch My Katamari possibly being worse, but idk since I haven't played that in ages. Still good games though, I'd hardly consider *any* of them as genuinely "bad". They all definitely beat out most AAA and mobile games being released today that's for sure.

We Love Katamari Reroll has so many issues from incorrect pitches, warped water in gorgeous setting, vending machines spitting out drinks in the roses level and many, many more. I played through the whole game years ago, but with the PC-Engine/TG-16 version. I do remember having a hard time on the later stages even with savestates. Although i would like to point out that the home version is almost arcade perfect except for the fact that it doesn't have parralax scrolling.

Great video! I appreciate how comprehensive you are about both versions. Personally I really like how faithful this is to the original, since a lot of remakes change so many things that completely transforms the game, but I wish it was it at least had toggleable options. Something to strike a middle-ground between people who want an experience as close to the original as possible, or something updated with modern game standards. I gotta revisit this game sometime, I never beat it :P

Oh, also something I knew recently, the Sega Genesis has a Double Screen mode where It runs at 320x448, and there is no performance loss, this mode is used in Sonic 2's multiplayer mode, they could have used it
