Honestly still the best Balalaika AMV I've ever seen. It's so tragic seeing how she went from a normal sweet girl, to an upstanding soldier who risked her life to save a refugee child, and finally to a person who is so dead inside that she doesn't even bat an eye at killing a child in cold blood. That pause on her face towards the end (4:28) perfectly portrays how broken and insane she has become. Truly beautifully edited, and the song choice is chef's kiss.

I think that she is still very beautiful with her scars, it adds an unique twist to her character and i honestly couldn’t imagine her right now without any scars. I think her scars look really cool and show how much she has been through. So i think her scars are a necessary addition.

How come of all the foreign (to a post-soviet russian) media, it's the japanese manga anime creators who get us right? To me, Balalaika is the ghost or Soviet Russia, risen from it's grave to haunt the world and watch over it's lost children. She has little to live for, save for sheer malice and her personal score with the world, which was nothing but a broken promise from that awesome walk in sunlit beryozka (birch tree) alley, and up to the yakuza slaughter and subsequent brush with the CIA. Gets me every time... Best russian villain ever!
