Can ONLY imagine what it must be like to have that much power at your fingertips. Goosebumps.

I know it’s for safety reasons, but I still think it’s a shame that the gunsight has been removed. As a probably stupid question, does this plane still have the turbo-supercharger systems? I’ve seen a couple of P-47s that have had the whole thing removed and replaced by fiberglass or something that looks correct.
@cwissig12 күн бұрын
It does have working turbo chargers which gives it that jet, wine kind of sound on take-off. I've sat in P-51 Mustangs with the gun sight in place and they take up a lot of the view...

Read Martin Caidens book. The p38 could do everything the Mustang could, only better

The best static display anyplace I was ever stationed was at McGuire AFB in NJ. Disappointed when they closed the gate nearest Pudgy, I took “the long way” to work just to drive by her. What an incredible restoration!

My favorite airplane. I had an uncle who was a civilian mechanic , he worked on airplanes flying out of New York to England. He said the p38 sounded like a big Cadillac. It would be a dream to fly one. Excellent video.

@@cwissig1 Thanks for sharing this with me. I love this airplane. I live in Texas and recently went to the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi Texas. They have everything except for a Hellcat. Didn't the Collins foundation recently ground all there aircraft?

Wow. I built a Revell model "Pudgy" and I'm truly amazed to see how accurate that model was in every external detail. The P-38 has always been my favourite fighter and how great it is to see this one gracing the skies. Great video.

Great Video! This was one of the first models I ever built back when I was a young boy ( 1962 thru 1969) besides the P51 P40 F8F B29 B17 B40 and B29...my ceiling was full...( my Mom Just gave up after a while ...I still hadnt gotten into Jets yet!!.. :0)...One thing I remember about this model was the dark green plasitic it was made out of It was a pain to glue and paint..really slippery stuff..And now with all the new Flight simulators out on the market ..the P38 is top of the dream planes to fly... at 02:30 on It just feels right to see her fly...Thanks a lot!!!

@cwissig1 was this flight out of American Aero at KEVB? I saw that plane there a couple of years ago and got to watch her start up, taxi out, and depart. Though I don’t think it was this same flight.

Charles Lindburgh wanted to join the Army Air Corps in WW2, but was restricted due to him being a national treasure. But he did help train pilots how to maximize their range and conserve fuel. Lindburgh flew illegally one time with a squadron of P-38's in the Pacific for that very reason during a mission. He really helped pilots increase their range making their planes far more deadly. The P-38 was also a great reconnaissance plane because it could fly higher than 40,000 ft.

A difficult plane to fly and somewhat dangerous. Because of the engine torque and counter rotating blades, if one engine quit on takeoff, the other had to be shut down in milli seconds or the plane would invert instantly
@dandunlap86384 ай бұрын
Obviously that plane has had a professional prestige rebuild. Every T crossed and I dotted, and is being flown somewhat gently. During the war, there was such pressure to get them in the air, I’m sure they were great but not perfect, and they were tasked with much more demanding flight.
