@mikelafiddleКүн бұрын
@nickukasiewicz3367 it's the BEST. I've had neck/shoulder pain for years and this chinrest (plus ditching the shoulder rest and doing a bit of feldenkrais/Alexander technique) helped a lot. It's called the SAS. fiddlershop.com/products/sas-chinrest-original-model-violin

Thank you !!! Do you know the titles of the other pieces after Swallowtail ? I'm starting a little bit irish music (I'm french, and I play accordion), and I learnt Swallowtail slip jig few weeks ago. I think you're going to help me ^^. Thank you for the video (and the other videos).
@mikelafiddle4 күн бұрын
@amelieveicanfly2985 hello!! Yes the full set of tune names are the Swallowtail / Road to Lisdoonvarna/ Pat McKennas / Out on the Ocean. There are 4 jigs in this set. They aren't slip jigs - those have three beats per bar, just regular jigs which have two beats.

Sounds great! I noticed your bow hold is higher than what is typically taught but common to a lot of irish folk fiddlers i've seen. Do you primarily do it to gain speed and nimblness? I tried a 3/4 bow and it sort of helped make my bowing faster, but then a few days later I was going faster on a normal bow.

Nice tune! You can give it the Kevin Burke treatment and add 300 long rolls, 10 birls, 5 double rolls, 3 crans, 3.54 descending slides, 8 cuts, and 1 tap, all in the first two measures. Or in the first if you're Kevin.

If you've ever played Mouth of the Tobique, the triplets in the first two bars can be detached one, slur two, or vice versa, to spice it up a bit. Obviously, it's not a reel you'd want to start a new student with, but it's one that readily accepts some experimentation.

I love mouth of the tobique!!

Thank you! I’d nearly given up trying to read. Once I realized I needed to read it right to left, it actually helped. I knew I got it right by the couple times that you repeated the missed slurs.

Love e minor... something intangibly authentic about it. Suggestion for students: try to look like you're enjoying the moment a bit more (You and Bodhran player in the back notwithstanding). Cello player is great, but looks a little annoyed. You don't have to wear a ridiculous smile all the time... but sometimes something as easy as raising your eyebrows makes you look way more interested that you may be at the present moment.

I've been working on those damn triplet and roll things for 20 years... (come from classical background) this is the first time I've seen anyone actually teach it as if I were in a private lesson... thanks
