Hey Darya! I’ve loved this video! So interesting to know about your life and experiences and a lot of your story truly resonates with me! I have taken a sabbatical period to focus on my art - trying to set up a business but not too demanding a business that it takes away the joy! I am lucky enough to have had a career already and now I am ready to go back to working part-time perhaps in a museum or art shop, even a cinema… 😅 - if it is within your interests and brings benefits its a win win in my eyes - and less money in my view at the moment means less responsibility too 😊! Your job at the botanical gardens sounds like another great option I would consider now! I can only imagine how much inspiration it brings you for your botanical art projects! Well, I could chat here with you all day, much love ❤️ from Italy for now x , Alessandra.

Soo…Darya, “the moral to the FB voting delimna” may be, that people are ruled by the LOWEST FACEBOOK COMMON DENOMINATOR: scrolling quickly, hardly thinking, clicking and moving on. The FB ‘world’ just isn’t conducive to a good/fair contest of anything, other than looking at many posts quickly! What more appropriate social media might attract more attentive audience for professional artists like you? (Try not to be overly concerned about users on FB. )

This was super helpful! Thank you! So if you have a beautiful piece of watercolor art, like your Hope Floral pattern, that does not need to be color reduced because it will be printed via Spoonflower, how do you recolor it to create other colorways? Do you have to use one of the more advanced software programs that you mentioned?
@PatternTalentbyDaryaKarenski
@PatternTalentbyDaryaKarenski 21 күн бұрын
Correct - no need to color reduce in the strict sense of the word. It can be recolored in Photoshop by creating layers for each color using lasso and magic wand and then recoloring them using Saturation, Hue and Color Balance settings!

I know Im late responding but this is my 1st viewing here. Sorry. I just turned 70 and have owned a lot of brushes over the years along with very large squirrel hair to smaller squirrel, and the synthetic mixed with Squirrel and totally synthetic to mimic squirrel hair. The larger the brush the less shape and spring you will get. That is true even for sable brushes. I have a full set of squirrel mops and I never use the three largest ones for that reason. Like you, I just don't care for a brush that wont start up. The smaller the squirrel mop, the more control you have..I love my two smallest ones. I have some squirrel filberts too and no, a large filbert soft squirrel type brush be it real or imitation is never going to have bounce or hold its shape when its full of water. The wetter the squirrel hair is the less point you will get because it holds so much water that the ends expand. The fine hairs is heavy with water! Naturally it will not bounce, but so great to wet the paper with if you do wet into wet. It really dies act like a mop. It will only show its point when most of the water is drained out. It's just the nature of that type of brush. As far as your kolinsky, sable or sable imitations, you just cannot compare that with a squirrel hair type brush. They do not perform the same way. They aren't supposed to perform the same way. God bless and thanks for sharing. I love your beautiful work.

The type of video I am looking for is What makes a balanced design line. My goal is to create design lines for fabric intended for quilting. I've heard terms like 'low volume designs', 'Hero prints", "supporting prints", "color ways", and "tonals". If you can give insight or suggest a chnnel that talks about that i would love to hear!
@PatternTalentbyDaryaKarenski
@PatternTalentbyDaryaKarenski 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what low volume designs means - perhaps it references the intended amount of yardage to be produced? Tonals are designs created within a tonal color palette, for example, in blue hues. Hero print is the most eye-catching design in the collection, supporting prints are less intricate. I talk about these and colorways in my video about textile design collections: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aa9igMx7r9C4qX0.htmlsi=krY2fE4HN6AFCZ0_ I also have a lesson on collections in my Introduction to Surface Pattern Design class on Skillshare - you can get a free month trial at this link: skl.sh/3uTdIgF . The class lasts 2 hours and is broken down into 10 (or so) minutes lessons that will give you lots of useful insights into surface pattern design. You can also search "quilting fabric collection" or "textile design collections" on KZfaq!

I entered my first Design Challenge just this week and am VERY disappointed. Several days into the contest and although I've had numerous people FAVORITE my design I have had ZERO votes registered even though I know I have had votes. My husband voted for my design, I saw him vote and yet nothing is showing in my dashboard for any votes. The only way to find me when searching is by ARTIST which doesn't allow for even gaining exposure by being in the contest. I consider myself a winner because I accomplished learning digital art and pattern design (software) on my new pen display tablet in 18 days and the contest entry was my motivation. I'm glad I learned the pitfalls of working with this company, sooner rather than later. I just got a Skillshare account to learn more, so I'll be looking into your class.

Absolutely love your thoughtful and kind videos. So much insight into the day to day life for textile design. I'm a different kind of designer who's curious about textiles, and I was stunned by how relevant your words were for my work too e.g. contracting, supplies, controlling production issues, and then the copied artwork as well. I would even say that after my work was copied, I became more guarded about my knowledge, resources, and the suppliers I use - referencing your point about not crediting a brand or designer even if I dearly wanted to, and I personally do want to! So I feel very conflicted about it often, but I think you raise a great point. Anyway. Thank you for making such a wonderful video, I'm still watching your other videos!!
