i flew with the old version, we were only a squad in the cargo area, those things perform like sportscars, you can feel the huge amount of power in every moment. Sure the pilot had his fun during that low lewel flight.

From cold, there's four engines you have to start. They can do an emergency start, but it's hard on the engines. You wouldn't start your car and immediately get on the freeway.

That much smoke is not normal. Possibly a new engine burning off preservative.
@coldstartarchivesАй бұрын
A previous comment notes: "These engines burn kerosene. The white smoke is burning engine all. The labyrinth oil seals in the engine bearings are letting oil pass into the hot gases as the engine is starting. When the compressor air pressure builds up as the engine is accelerating the labyrinth seals do their thing and stop the oil from passing through, hence no more white smoke."
@scottw5315Ай бұрын
@@coldstartarchives I know what they burn, JP5. I deployed with CH53Es. Don't recall them smoking like that.
@coldstartarchivesАй бұрын
Probably because these are different engines, the E uses T64s, the K uses T408s
@scottw5315Ай бұрын
@@coldstartarchives I don't pretend to know but yes, different engines. I deployed for over eighteen months with the Es. I was flying 46s. We took 464 on two cruises. I was in HMM-164. The Gulf war cruise was aboard the Okinawa, an LPH. 53s on an LPH are an unnatural act for sure but we did it in those days. Thanks for posting.

These are the CH-53K King Stallions, which first flew in 2015. They are not to be confused with the CH-53E Super Stallions, which first flew in 1974. Nor are they to be confused with the CH-53 Sea Stallions, which first flew in 1964.

Such a pretty bird. The Marine Corps' White Whale. Doesn't have the same rugged look of the Super Stallions but makes up for it in the curves. Also it's scary how fast these helicopters can move when they need to.

This car most recently went to auction at Mecum Indy 2024, where it was correctly marketed as having a "ZL1 block with aluminum heads". Despite being correctly notated (unlike at Mecum Kissimmee 2023), it only reached a high bid of $210k.
