We all need to learn. I like channels making their own content, not the same content as all the other ones. Nice you were able to be sailing. Note on reefing, the luff and leach grommits take the load of the wind, the reef points keep sail neat and tidy. We were out in 20-25, G 30-35. Reefed down and did ok. Bit blowy for our area.

Olive, thanks for checking out the vid and sharing your thoughts -- and you are 1000% right re: the need to learn. I love learning and I enjoyed a wonderful career in the field of adult education, in my 'previous life.' I also love to be creative -- whether it be sharing stories with the written word, or via videography, it is a passion of mine, indeed. But, again, at the crux of it all -- it's sharing with others, connecting, learning that moves my spirit. Thank you for the note on reefing -- excellent!!! And, yeah -- G 30-35 sound pretty spicy! Hope you're enjoying summer with the ponies and the boat! Catch ya later and fair winds!

Hey, Squally! Always love seeing your tracks, here -- thanks so much for watching and commenting! Re: the skeptics: I always try to take everything with a grain of salt, so I suppose it was just time for me to set the record straight about the purpose of my channel (I thought my channel trailer served that purpose, but it appears it must get overlooked.). That said, I love to share stories and I also love connecting with others so that I can learn from them -- just as I have learned from you, from olivei2484, and countless others I come across, here, on YT -- e.g., the tip I got from WrinkesInOurSails is one fine example of how sharing stories really helps others learn -- if I hadn't come across their video, I would not be utilizing the deck hardware aboard Charm. Hey, hi LeAnn! Really so excited and happy to connect with another Legacy owner! So, on my 2021 Legacy (the boat featured in this vid), yes, she did come rigged with a topping lift from Com-Pac Yachts (and I purchased this boat brand-new). Two and a half years later, I sold this Legacy and bought a Com-Pac 23; I then later realized how much I missed the ease of my Legacy, so I bought another one -- and so this Legacy I now have is like yours -- she's from 2008. I bought her last fall, from a friend, and have not sailed her yet, but hope to splash her soon. Charm looks great in the water. You are going to have a fun sailing season this year. I noticed that you did not drop the mast and bring her home for the winter nap. How long does it take to raise and lower the mast on charm.?
@passagesfromtheheart2 ай бұрын
Hi, Squally!!! Thank you so much! It was great to get Charm cleaned up -- at least so far on the outside -- but, I have got my work cut out for me with her interior -- plus, I've got to get that front hatch leak repaired ASAP. I don't want to resort to having to cover up the hatch on deck. Just need to have a weather window with a few days of dry weather to get the job done. Re: Charm's mast -- last season, there were 6 of us working to get the mast up. One person on the winch on the crane, two guys on deck sorting out the rigging on deck and stepping the mast -- my husband, myself, and one other person were passing tools back and forth to the guys on deck. Turns out that the folks I purchased the boat from installed the furling headstay backwards (apparently, according to one of the guys on deck), so the headstay had to be removed and reinstalled. That added considerable time to the job. We were there a couple of hours, at least. I'd like to think, the next time around, it will go more smoothly. It will never be as easy as the Legacy, I realize, but I'd like it to be less stressful and more seamless next go round. I plan to take the mast down at the end of this season as I think I'll be replaced halyards, etc. What's Squally Heifer been up to lately? Did you get out on the salt water yet?
@kennethpaladino49482 ай бұрын

We have a local sail maker, canvas sewn too, Ill email you a name. A horse blanket person should be able to make a cover. I had one make a waggon top for my covered waggon. Spare paddock buckets! Hey, olive! I'd love that name -- definitely please forward it when you can! Most folks told me "no pattern for your boat" so they didn't want any part of the job. I found Mitch's channel last night. I watched all his videos except the last one. (It was past my bedtime.) He has a wonderful personality. So you did good promoting him. People like yourself and Mitch reveal a lot of who you are in your videos, so I almost get the feeling that I know you. I'm sure if I ever met either of you I would not feel like you were strangers. This exposure of one's personality is what really makes sailing KZfaqrs successful. Sam Holmes does this. The fact that we know and like Sam is more compelling than even his sailing exploits. And he keeps mixing up his sailing. I am more impressed with him sailing an old worn out Hobie Cat 16 around the Florida coast and eventually to the Bahamas than I was crossing the Atlantic or sailing to Hawaii in small cruisers.

Charles Bronaugh has had a big influence on my sailing development. His channel focuses on his old Chrysler Buccaneer 18 daysailer/racer. His video of sailing on Yale Lake in Washington State got me hooked on the boat. I found one, bought it, made some minor rigging upgrades and repairs. It's a two or three man boat for racing, but you can solo it in winds under 15 mph. I bought mine a little over a year ago. and I've sailed it about forty times, mostly solo, in all kinds of conditions. (I also have some other sailboats.) It's a great boat to go out ripping around the lake on a windy afternoon and then trailer it back home and then enjoy the comforts of home. But I'm really getting the itch for a bigger boat, something like an O'Day 22 that I can easily trailer to beautiful mountain lakes and spend several days there, or take it down east and do some coastal sailing on North Carolina's bays and sounds.

I think you captured our boat passing through the Bay View Bridge! It amazes me that, despite regular searches for videos & channels about sailing on the various Great Lakes, some, like yours, still pop up randomly. Thanks for providing a little off season armchair sailing and fair winds!

Hi! Oh my goodness, I am so excited to see your comments! That is WAY cool that was your boat! I, too, am always looking for channels about Great Lakes sailing, and they are difficult to come by. I used to sail primarily on Lake Superior, every summer, ages 12 - 18. My family would charter a sailboat out of Bayfield, WI, typically. We mostly cruised the Apostles, but during one trip, we sailed to Isle Royale. On another, we sailed to Mackinac Island. I have a Com-Pac 23 that is trailerable, and I am hoping to get either to Lake Michigan or Lake Superior for some sailing, sometime soon. Our sailing season is coming 'round the corner and I cannot wait! Fair winds to you, too -- and thanks for stopping by my channel and sharing such happy thoughts! ~ Chelle

@@passagesfromtheheart We hope to make it up to Lake Superior soon also. We’ve a bit longer to wait as we won’t launch until July this year. We’ll keep a weather eye out for you! I never promote our videos as ours is not that kind of channel but if you search for “Boat Ride to Manitowoc in June, ‘23” (not sure it’s okay to add a link) and skip to 1:39 you might see what I think is companion footage to yours. See you out there!

First, another great podcast. Good advice about practice. Second, Sailing for Dummies is a great book. I have given away several copies. Really boils sailing down to what you need to know (for beginners, to see if they would even want to sail). Interesting to hear why you and Squally started your channels. I did the same, I have a relatively unknown dinghy of yesteryear and there is very little information out there. Good call on the headsails. Generally doesn't make much difference in light to medium, but sure does in heavy.

Are there polar plots for both styles of rudder?

You can use an old cell phone as a GPS unit.

Hey, hi! So glad you stopped by and checked out my visit with Squally! It was so cool to compare notes about our boats and share ideas! And speaking of sharing: that's what I love most about KZfaq in that it gives people a mechanism for sharing their stories -- and helping others out there! Always so appreciate your support and love to read your remarks -- thanks, again, for coming by! Fair winds! ~ Chelle⛵🤗🌞🌊

@@passagesfromtheheart I like the idea of using an old cell phone. That way I can keep mine regular one in case of trouble charged. I'll let you know the app, let me see if I can find the old phone.

Ahoy, Squally! Thank you so much! I am so happy that we got to do this project together! So looking forward to the next one! Now, let's hope for some good rainfall to come both our ways to fill up our lakes! Talk soon and fair winds! ~ Chelle ⛵
