Thank you for the breakdown! Loving the sweatshirts. But for some context, you may want to look up the definition for “gothic” in terms of literature. Might help to make the connection a bit since it’s likely a reference to the irony of common themes creating a specific atmosphere, one in which outsiders may view as dystopian or ripe with potential for darkness (like what is hinted at in Beach Read and Happy Place)

This was one of the best videos I've ever seen. The sunglasses every 2 seconds, perfect. I was laughing nonstop. Not to mention, I love Emily Henry, I will consume all of her adult novels I do not care. I loved this video so much I will forgive you putting my favorite book, Beach Read, at the bottom of the pyramid.

There are books and then there are Emily Henry books!! I feel like Funny Story is every critique Ive ever had from her previous books resolved. It’s like she said “I hear you about how annoying the family tropes are in Book Lovers oh and also my writing somehow got even better, enjoy!”

Cincinnatian here, the “Kentucky river region” is just Northern Kentucky (cities like Newport, Covington, Florence, etc.) they are just right across the Ohio River! Most people just lump them into the Cincinnati metro area.

omg my opinions on her books are the opposite of yours, people we meet on vacation was fun to read but the plot irritated me so much, like wdym ur constantly drooling over eachother while ur w other people?+ the solution didnt make any sense, that girl would never be happy living in the place she absolutely hates. (lol sorry for this little rant, the plot just really made me so mad, i really enjoyed ur video tho, i find it honestly surprising that ur channel isnt that big yet)

this is very very niche, but i work in book marketing and develop media calendars (like birthdays, death anniversaries, world history events etc so that publishing folks can plan their campaigns): a lot of famous authors don't have their birthdays public for some reason? more than you'd think tbh idk if this happens in other industries as well, like well known but not public facing people don't have googlable birthdays

I’m going to assume that Midwest Gothic is a take on the literary genre Southern Gothic which is basically what Faulkner wrote. The term Gothic comes from the British or European genre from the 18th century which was where supernatural and dark themes are explored in the early novel. Southern Gothic took those themes and focused into a type of regionalism which was highly popular in early American literature. It’s not the same as the music genre or aesthetic.
