Don't forget to hit the top side of the plate with a blower while cutting or before you park it in the pole building. All the tinder collecting on top, grease, spilt diesel, oils, etc. and heat from parts can cause a fire. Heard about it on some forums. Love the plate, definitely need one.

I bought it because of the 4" cut capacity and the price being notably less than the Brown Tree Cutter. I have been able to do jobs others have not so it has paid for itself. Keep the blades sharp and it chews things up pretty well. I don't care for the shroud design. It makes cleaning difficult and holds moisture.

Improvements include: 1. front lip to divert grass and debris down. Shorter in the rear to accumulate less debris where protection isn't needed. 3. Large access ports with beveled edges to direct debris past the opening or some type of opening cover 4. 1" clearance the entire length of the tractor.

Always wear the seatbelt especially as a new operator. Things can develop very quickly. Try to track with the boom close to the cab. That will stop the digger from feeling jerky and keep the weight over the tracks. Just remember it’s not a bulldozer, would recommend spreading the material roughly with the bucket and use the blade to even things out. You can always add a counter weight to the machine. Sounds like a 5T machine night be best for you.

Thanks for the tips I continue to improve. I wonder the same about needing a bigger machine. I have seen what others do with the same machine and think I need to be that proficient before making any big changes.
@calolsen5074
@calolsen5074 8 ай бұрын
@@EronIler Yeah you don’t want to go too big and then limit yourself with accessibility and jobs. Also the heavier the machine the more mess you tend to make, especially if the ground is wet. That can be a pain if you’re working for a client and you have to tidy up after yourself or keep the site tidy. Being proficient with the controls will definitely take a lot of the tippy feeling out of the digger too.

When I bought it, it was $22,000. The prices may have come down since then. $18k seems more reasonable. I have made $8500 in my he first 6 months because of it. A 60 ac job was referred to me because my competitor with a 6’ cutter knew I had it. From the two jobs I used it on, I anticipate another $8-11k in other projects from them. If the mower lasts 20 years, it is a money maker. Since it is unique to most bush hoggers, you can charge a little more or the same and get done 50% faster.

I’m working on the video for 60 acres completed two weeks ago. Seeing that much open grass is intimidating. We cut 30 ac a day with the tractor and zero turn. The ZT “edges” around fences and obstacles which significantly speeds of the tractor work and keeps it at maximum productivity by avoiding a lot of backing.

Yes. Turns out after 2-3 years of blowing the radiator I need to flush it with water from the back. Even though it has a screen I clean regularly, fine debris built up and blowing it out wasn’t good enough. Water did the trick.

Until that incident I worked on a handshake. She had to pay the full job price plus court costs. Court fees ran about $750 if I recall. It wasn’t bad. I believe making a video before she tried to stiff me was critical for the judge to understand the situation.

Thank you very much for the video. Very nice cutter. I came close to buying this exact model at the end of last season, but got cold feet at the last minute, because I think I might should get a 15'. My tractor is a new JD 5090M, so 75PTO hp. I only mow for myself, usually just tall grass fields here at the farm, about 40 acres to mow, but I have other properties as well that I may mow in the future but rarely. Do you have any regrets at all getting a 12'? The 15' appeals to me because I could mow further up under the trees at the edge of the field without running the tractor cab through the tree limbs. Another thing is with a 15', the tractor tires would seem to line up better with the main hinges on the wings, so when mowing in a ditch, the wings might follow the ground better, as well as reaching further up the bank, but I could be totally wrong about this. My only experience mowing is with the 7' straight bushhog I have now. Do you wish you had a third valve so you would have independent control of the wings? I am thinking of adding that before I buy. It seems with independent wing control that I could hang one wing in the air if mowing on the top of a very steep bank, or raise one wing up at a 45 degree angle to mow privet or low hanging tree limbs at the edge of trails. Sorry for all the questions. Enjoy!

I have not used it much yet so I don’t have a well qualified reply. I will say one big consideration is moving it. Getting the rug on a trailer is something I stress over. If you won’t have to trailer it and can afford it, why not get a bigger mower. You logic all sounds reasonable for your application. I always say buy as much as you can afford. You can use less HP or mowing size if you want but you can never add more after the purchase. I have bought many smaller things only to buy a bigger one later and losing money in the trade.

Yes, I ended up getting a decent deal on a 3150. The 5090M runs it well. It will bog down just slightly when the Johnson grass is thick and 10' tall, so I wouldn't want less hp than that for such a big cutter. After running it for a few months, I see no need for a third valve to lift the wings independently. I love how it will reach up under the trees at the edge of the field without getting the tractor mirrors into the limbs. The biggest difference is the tow behind design just does a fantastic job cutting grass while turning compared to a three point hitch mounted cutter. My 7' three point hitch mounted Bushhog pushes the grass sideways when turning, and wont cut it cleanly. With sharp blades the 3150 almost looks like a finish mower cut the lawn. Great cutter. @@OtterCreekFarm
@EronIler

@@darthnatas953 I was able to get a $3500 job because I could do it faster with the bigger cutter. Others with 6’ cutters are bidding $5k because it will take forever for them to get it done. I can see some applications for lifting the wings independently but it hasn’t stopped me yet.
