I know the sponge effect is great for creating trees. What about if you don't want a white background, and instead want skies or sunset?
@ChrisStephenArtСағат бұрын
@@Rockymtnbloom You can put in any colour wash for a sky, dry it and then add the trees over the top. 😊
@jerseyjoe16777 сағат бұрын
I use this technique you should try rotating the sponge to avoid repeating patterns. The tree on the right on the left side of that tree has 4 branches with leaves that look almost exactly the same. You just wouldn’t see that in nature. Otherwise excellent work.

Awesome demonstration. I just tried my first water color painting last night, Total disaster, I was using canson 140lb cold press paper and castle watercolor tube paint, very disappointed, any suggestions? Maybe I need one hundred percent cotton paper.
@ChrisStephenArt5 күн бұрын
Thanks Wes. In my opinion paper is the most important supply you can buy, cotton paper is certainly beneficial for some styles. Also, practice is key, if you only did your first painting last night, don’t consider it a disaster, it’s part of the learning process!!

Concerns about paynes grey which is transparent but I suspect may have granulating qualities. Not sure if this answers the flat visual impressions. - But each manufacturer version of this grey is slightly different, too. Paynes grey is cooler than the mix of ultramarine and burnt sienna which is a warmer tone. Paynes grey is a nice use for the cool shadows to counter the shadow side of shapes. So here is a case possibly that you might consider the subtle use of a third color. Possibly you might try giving us a demo on warm and cool tonal method techniques - I would consider this an advanced subject with interesting variations in the composition. looking forward to your next presentation. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and beautiful art.

Dear Christopher, I like so much your technique, your pictures and your speach. Your speach is very pleasant and I enjoy the process. I am beginner, and I have not so much experience. I decided for Daniel Smith watercolours. Sorry for that…. all the same, you at the best! 😊 With best regards, Heike (North-Germany)

@@heikejantz592 Hi Heike, Thanks so much for watching. I do tend to use a more muted palette, so don’t often paint with bright colours. @@bordergirl Generally, you get cauliflowers by adding paint that is wetter than what’s already on the paper. It’s about controlling the water on the paper and brush.
