Rule of Thumb is there isn't any Marks from previous people You're the first and that means expect anything I hit the top of a tree while going super fast because I didn't realize that a bunch of snow literally covered the trees like it was bad like 10ft of snow dropped on this area so a small 9ft tree not even sticking out of the snow caught the front of my board did a flip and landed head and neck first got away with a concussion and some nasty bruises to my shoulder

Appreciate the honest self-assessment. It's very much like a pilot would do.

Really learnt a lot from this. Do you think the avalanche bag helped a lot for the skier caught in the slide?

Good video, appreciate the play-by-play explanations along with the mistakes that were made. Amazing how, without that ABS pack and one ski sticking out of the snow, she might have died, even in a relatively small avalanche. Very educational.

Wow…could’ve been so much worse. I’m curious…do the ABS packs not reset in some way? Are they single-use, or were you just being conservative with the pull?

This scares me a bit. Last year, I went down there alone (!), using the same trail, Steinbock (yellow route), and without any safety gear. I thought it was quite safe to do so, considering that the mountain company stated it's open (and safe, I thought). I do believe the snow was less heavy and I remember it to be quite cold as well. Feeling a little bit irresponsible now...

Please call the resort rescue (SOS Parsenn) when you trigger an avalanche. Otherwise a rescue mission could be started when it's not clear if someone still could be under. People were searching the deposit later that day...

It's freaky to see how it looks like not a lot of snow falling, but then seeying the skier absolutely gone in the snow. Guess without the proper equipment you can die pretty fast..

Crazy, I've done this slope countless in my life (it's called Steinbock), every winter a 4-5x, also when it was hazard level 3 (but it was never closed). Never thought that on this slope could occur such terrifying avalanches...

Glad you got out ok. Good assessment of some risks. Was this recently when it’s been -10° overnight in Davis? Big temperature gradient through the snowpack (cold air) causes weak layers to form…

First of all, glad you went away unscathed! And secondly, thanks for sharing! A lot to learn and reflect in this short story. One hast to be honest that it is more than once that you run into situations like this and get away with nothing happening when you ride backcountry. You just never know how close you got to a trigger point and avoided desaster. One can always argue afterwards that it was the wrong decision to enter that face. But you made up your mind beforehand and made some good calls. You were well equipped, went one by one and also thought of the guys following you. They somehow were the lucky ones, because one meter of snow cover can be well enough to not walk away unscathed especially if your colleagues don't have beacons, probes and shovels and cannot find you. I had an accident like this years ago and certainly resets your willingness to take risks 😉

It's pretty scary to see just how fast skier 3 is being carried down the slope at 2:27-2:40. If there were any trees or rocks in the way, that's a lot of impact force...
